Anyone know the u17s score vs the mags this week? @drivingiron @RedSky
2-1 to NUFC.
Said on here a few months back that I wonder if one of our next steps is to start taking highly rated players from lower cat academies.Close but overall I thought they deserved the win, they’ve got some pacy players and attacking threat.
Interesting to see the different approach with the youth teams. Sunderland 17s/18s are home grown with a couple of additions who were picked up after release from other cat 1s. Newcastle have paid fees for several players from lower cat academies.
Tight game agreed Newcastle dominated first half and different styles again Sunderland dominated second half and retained ball more and were unlucky without any clear cut chances .. different approaches agreed , newcastle also had Rory finneran playing they got from Blackburn . Newcastle played the max 3 outfield 18 players allowed notable their 2 centre backs . Sunderland had 2 u18 in the squad .. and finished with 2 under 16 centre backs .. lots of young lads got a run and a testClose but overall I thought they deserved the win, they’ve got some pacy players and attacking threat.

Plenty of local lads have left when they had the chance as well. Even if it was a different timeBizarrely enough that was a plan from Donald years ago when we were in league 1 but didn’t really seem to come to fruition on a large scale.
One question I’d have in bringing young lads in from out of the area is whether they have the same level of loyalty to the club as the home grown lads.
If we take for example Rigg, Watson and Young who could all have easily jumped ship at 16 to Pl clubs on bigger money but chose to stay here, compared to a Josh Maja who did jump at the very 1st sight of a move away.
I appreciate they were different ages, but I do think it’s a valid question whether you are likely to retain out of area lads as much.

Random question are you Smiter from Town End?It was mate, I was going to put that on original message, but I just don’t think you can compare leaving in league 1 to now.
Who scored for the lads?Close but overall I thought they deserved the win, they’ve got some pacy players and attacking threat.
