Summer 2021 recruitment

Mostly hits, and I agree with the above, Broadhead is a hit.

What stands out for me though is the fight and work rate. It shows it is something the recruitment team has concentrated on. We have had far too many gutless plodders in the team in the past, and a manager ethic of sit back and pack out the box to hold onto that draw. Watching this team make so many interceptions and press high is a joy.

So far the recruitment team are getting it right way more than wrong, and by and large the players they've brought in are improvements to last season which is exactly what we need.

No doubt there will be more players none of us have ever heard of coming in but the fact that they've already got a few right means we can afford to trust they've done the proper scouting and data analysis. And whoever it is they bring in will be an improvement.

….a judgement so far:

Successes:

Doyle - good for the most part, but has a lot to learn which is why he is here.

Cirkin - Injuries aside he looks like an absolute steal and is a more than capable left back.

Hoffman - Not without his weaknesses, but they’re outweighed by his positive qualities. Getting better as he settles.

Dajaku - Contributed some important goals and assists.

Pritchard - been outstanding since he got his match fitness back.

Jury is out:

Evans - some good games, some poor. Needs to stay fit.

Broadhead - undoubtedly a good player but hos injury problems are a huge concern.

Huggins - unlucky with a bad injury, looked promising in the little we saw.

Hasn’t worked out:

Alves: Will be going back to west ham, having barely featured when we have an injury crisis in defence.

I think on the basis of this, and honorable mentions for Winnie and Stewart becoming key players having both been doubted when we signed them, we need to give the recruitment team the benefit of the doubt this coming window. They’re doing far more right than wrong imo.
Can’t argue with any of that.

Recruitment been pretty decent so far, be interesting to see what they do in January to make sure we get automatic promotion. 3/4 in you reckon?

So watching live games makes it easier to assess a player IYO.
Or watching on the telly makes it easier which is it.?. Did you get over for the Doncaster game.???

Just realised you copied what others on here have posted about each of those players, and that's what your thoughts are.

Awful post, hang yer head in shame lad

I think Huggins will be one of our best players. He is in the same bracket as Broadhead and Neil in that he looks just so natural on the ball.

I'd take a risk signing him on a permanent basis. Hamstring issues are synonymous with explosive, pacey forwards and can be avoided (in the main) with the right physio and conditioning.
There could be an underlying reason for his. Has he been unlucky to a degree?

Anyone remember Ryan Giggs having issues with his hammies because of the cars he was driving ? Or am I just imagining that?

How come? Think he’s been excellent when fit.
was expecting more after here good reports from spurs fans, how many times does ball go behind for goal kick when trying to cross, plus overhits a lot too. defending at times is naive. Hopefully comes with time/experience.

The recruitment has been so very, very good now we’ve had a bit of time to look back. To do what they did - lower the age, add saleable players, change the style while keeping within the very tight parameters of scmp - in a single window is both a very impressive achievement and a massive indictment of the Donald regime. Just imagine if this lot had been in place in that first summer and had the benefit of the smaller squad, those individual talents and the breathing room of the parachute payments.

Anyone?

Recruitment was good enough overall, with some hits and some misses, hence our decent league position. Needs to be good again next month.

And you wonder why you get stick on here.

I think its looked very decent so far, especially when we've looked at getting younger players in with potential. Only one I can't really pass judgement on yet is Evans, but I'm hoping he can start to make a similar impact to what Pritchard is doing, now that he's close to being fully fit.

We should always be looking to improve on what we have, the clubs scouting and data should have increased significantly since last summer. The two loans from Germany took many by surprise and it would be nice if we could continue to look that bit further to unearth some future stars instead of resigning Danny Graham again.
