Success Vs risk

In a discussion with a mate (man Utd fan actually broadly from Manchester).

We're discussing Leicester - there's a pic doing the rounds that shows them going from league 1 up to PL champs, FA cup, CL later stages, then down to relegation back to league 1.

My mate is saying that no fan would swap stability for a flash of success.

I'm saying he's wrong. And that many fans of clubs would probably go "aye why not" if they could have a few years of daft success but then see the club even go bankrupt.

I was saying that I bet there are happer Leicester fans than Fulham fans.

What do you lot think?

At the point they're in L1 (assuming that's what happens) their fans will perhaps think differently, especially if they struggle, but if and when they eventually get back to the PL for a few years, they will be able to look back on a title and FA Cup that nobody will be able to take off them, and won't care too much that they spent a few years in the wilderness.

From an SAFC perspective, would we have preferred a few years of stability in the top flight in the 70s to our FA Cup win?

Top flight stability is never guaranteed for more than a few years for anyone, so trophy wins, which provide the real historic highlights for a club, will always trump that in the long term.
In Leicester's case, these being their only title and FA Cup win, makes it even more true.

I'd swap it.

This is what I'm saying to him.

Would a Fulham fan looking at...

12th
11th
15th
12th
Etc..

Swap with a Leicester fan then 100pct.

I've even got a man city fan saying he'd take a huge existential punishment as a price for the years they've had winning.

If success means FA or Carabao cup then no thanks. Those are meaningless trinkets these days
Winning PL is another matter
What Leicester have done beggars belief in terms of fall from grace
When we haven’t won anything in years over 50 years you can’t be choosy

Leicester City's achievement of being English Champions is the greatest achievement in modern times taking into consideration the money situation, i'd settle for doing the same even if it meant sliding down the leagues again afterwards.
