Anyone reckon we'll see a sub-20,000 crowd at home next season?

Recall 22,000 vs Watford at home in 2003 when Stephen Wright scored, and 22,000 when we beat WBA at home in 2006 with Keane in the stands (did Whitehead stick one in direct from a corner?!).

There is just so much apathy about at present I can see a sub-20,000 crowd, perhaps for a midweek game against someone with shite away support.
Based on the reduction of those not renewing from my group of mates who go, some who travel up from Doncaster for every home game, then no, 100% renewal rate across my group

No, football attendances have risen considerably everywhere in the country over the last 25 years.
For example when we were relegated in 87 to the 3rd we averaged 13000, if we have a disaster in the Chsmpionship next season (provided we're relegated this season) and are relegated to the 3rd flight again we'll average 30000 comfortably.

We'll still sell over 20k season tickets

No chance IMO. We have circa 28K ST holders now and people like myself are struggling to motivate themselves to go when they've already paid upfront.

I'm not renewing under Moyes as he has sucked all the hope for a bright future out of me.

Others will be thinking the same and others will only want to commit to watching the Premier League.

On the poll on here Moyes has less than a 1/3 of supporters backing him. The club need to listen to the fans not blindly back a bloke doing a dreadful job.

WTF..those 12,000 crowds at Roker in Dec 1972 were alright.

You could eat you pie in peace without a problem, no line up at the gate so you could sup an extra pint beforehand, no need to leave early for the bus and no fucker peeing downthe back of your leg cos they couldn't get through the throngs to the bogs.

Of course, then we had to go and draw at Man City in the fifth round and all the bedwetters came scurrying back.

This
I remember hitching up for a day time, mid week game when there was even less (8,000?)
Also that year....
Huddersfield away, prob only a couple of hundred of us ( Billingham lads stood strong on the station after) & not many more at Notts County ( 3rd round away) !

Great post. I've went from going to about ten aways and never missing home games to barely attending. There is nothing to watch, I struggle to believe we do anything in training its a shambles.

If dour Dave's still charge spouting his negativity and we are struggling I can see less than 20000 turning up,especially for a mid week game.

Even with Moyes in charge I doubt it will get that low. Winning football will see good crowds. We get 40,000 plus playing losing football.

ah the same season ticket holders who never went to league cup games then snaffled all the final tickets, them season ticket holders ?

I probably went to more games then most season ticket holders that season and paid more per game than most. The way it was handled was a shambles tbf.
Edit- was meant to say cup final tickets

For cup games yes, for league games I doubt. There's so much apathy that some people just can't be arsed to stop going:lol:

I reckon you're right. A canny hardcore to be fair:cool:

Depends how many tickets we give away. I know we hate to admit the Free Ticket Mackem thing but our average revenue per ticket is the lowest in the league, lower than our already-lowest average ticket prices. You can argue whether it's better to have a fuller ground with potentially a better atmosphere and extra money being spent on drink/food/etc, or whether it's a kick in the face for season ticket holders and actually contributes to a worse atmosphere, but either way there's a lot of free/discounted tickets sloshing about.

I'd reckon 28-30k to start the season, with a massive upturn in either direction depending on how we begin. 40k if we piss the league playing good football, if the current dross continues then, aye, <20k.

I had Whitehead and 2-0 that game. 100/1, £1 stake, thought I was king of the world that day.
