Stuff the World Cup

I think he's my favourite journalist. Jonathan Liew

Summed up
"And frankly, what are you going to do about it? Not watch? Not care? Boycott?"

None of the above as I'll watch it, consume it, generate my own little bit of revenue for it

Liftin' and should only be allowed in countries where it's the nations favourite sport.

It could be played in the US every 4 years and it's still not overtaking handball, bouncyball or batball.
Agree to a point. I think the World Cup should be taken to nations where it can help grow the game - the current MLS was formed on the back of the 1994 World Cup, and it was great seeing it in SA in 2010
Having said that, the Qatar one in 2022 and the planned one in Saudi are just shameless money-making attempts by FIFA. I have no objection to USA-Canada-Mexico hosting, but the way they are fleecing the fans is immoral. There has to be some regulations in place and agreements from host nations before they are awarded the tournament.

Personally I'd alternate between Europe and AN Other country every World Cup
2030 - Italy
2034 - Argentina
2038 - England
2042 - Australia

etc etc

Been my thoughts since Italia 90 in truth.
I was in Italy in 1990, it was not corporate stitch up, tickets were easily available for every match I went to, got into Brazil Argentina in Turin for a tenner
In France in 1998 you saw the real corporate turn around, I remember being in Gard du Nord getting ready to travel to Lens for England Columbia, corporate groups were everywhere. I managed to tout a ticket from a Columbian travel group for a 1,000 francs. Which turned out to be a bargain.
Part of the problem in France is only the Paris & Marsielle stadiums were really big enough, Lyon Toulouse, St Etienne, Lens etc didn't even hold 40k
You were never ripped off with public transport though. I'm guessing the corporate take over started in USA 1994.

Intended to retire this May and make my retirement trip USA 2026, as I'd have to take out a second mortgage and keep working, glad I didn't even consider it after the orange messiah came to power

I commend anyone travelling to this World Cup on their excessive wealth, risk aversion, and situational naivety. Not just because of Trump, but because of the grotesque elitist malformation that Infantino has metamorphosed an already shit-stained organisation into.

I was excited when it was awarded to the USA, England playing in Dallas was the stuff dreams are made of for me, but I'll engage no further than watching some games on TV.

Since watching my first World Cup matches in 1974 I had watched every game I could until Qatar. I watched the Wales games and a few later stages games as well as the final, the sickening presentation summed it all up. I will try and watch Scotland's games this time around but the location in the USA who are waging war on some of the qualifiers is just as stomach churning.

Nothing new, happens every world cup, I only watch it on the tele , so it's not my problem

I certainly won't be going out my way to watch most of the games (even the England games). I work shifts and once over I'd book holidays in around the England games. I certainly won't be this year. I just have no appetite to watch any of it, especially taking that tyrant Trump into consideration.
