Striker situation

But the minute it's mentioned people jump. Look at the first page as an example.

Should I mention that Gelhardt looks like he needs another big striker to feed off? Yes I should as it's my opinion, can thay discussion happen? No because it's seen as Negative

Exactly

Frankly this striker moaning after anything less than a win is getting rather boring tbh. The team tasked with our transfers have done an incredible job this season. It’s not perfect with the lack of striking options but we are a newly promoted team currently sat in the play off positions. When did our fans become such entitled arseholes that they think expectation in our first season back in the championship should be promotion immediately back to the premier league with anything else perceived as failure for the management? Ridiculous!

I'm not sure what you expect. Newly promoted club that has had massive financial problems, new structure, top class loans, some great signings and playing at rtimes top class entertaining football. We don't have a bottomless pit and we were never going to get good cover in every position first season. We have done incredibly well to get a squad as good and as talented as we have. Not signing Ballard might have been a catastrophic decision, not getting Diallo as a loan or signing the likes of Roberts and Clarke under this lot. All of those decisions could have been catastrophic had we not brought them in. Massively entitled by those that kick off every time they dont get things their own way.

Ah so it's a financial restriction again?

Ah here's another Two midfielders, a defender, another winger who had played regularly for Lille and a hotly contested forward on loan coming in.....but we simply cannot get a striker.....

You have no idea what the budget was or how they allocated it - if we believe Speakman then they actually went for some, so it wasn't a financial restriction.

How is saying not having a proper striker affects us defending and getting up the field means you're entitled and expecting promotion?

Its just an observation. Grow up.

It’s every time we don’t get the three points. We get it, we could do with another striker. The moaning constantly isn’t gonna change that and people having a go at the best recruitment team we have had in what... 50 years for the sake of one missed position? It’s not in any way realistic and just pointless tbh. It’s entitled is the only thing about it. Childish!

They've ran it too close to the wire and this season its costing them. Whilst the recruitment team have largely done a fantastic job and had countrywide praise from all and sundry, I'm also wondering why we are simply not allowed to criticise the recurring failure in not having enough striking cover on our books?

I've also heard Speakman offer too many excuses In terms of Dejaku/Clarke/Amad also being strikers or playing there, not needing more, or it being too late - despite it being abundantly clear it was the one area we needed to strengthen at the beginning of the last three windows, especially so in the window just gone!

What's pissed me off tonight is people (in the response to the lack of a striker thread) criticising lads individually like Hume or making other excuses when there's a plethora of reasons we're making a bit more hard work of games like today or Reading, one main one being the lack of a striker and the way it affects how the team works as a whole.

So yeah whilst you won't find me moaning about it generally - if people are in denial, I'll be pointing it out.

Nothing is costing Sunderland - our club has been transformed by the signing of footballers and we are doing tremendously well. Hume is great but if he makes an error its fine to point that out as it is with any other player. What pisses me off is every time a player makes a costly mistake it can somehow be attributed to not getting a striker in which is absurd. If we were making hard work of games today then what about all of those games we were struggling to hold on to points for earlier in the season when we had Stewart / Simms or both? Cov/QPR and many others.

I'd be tempted to try 433. What's your ideas then?

Who is in the front three?

I thought the 4-4-2 worked OK last week.

That being said we have a decent back three in O9, Ballard and Baath...

For me there was too much emphasis on the RH side today, Bristol knew what was coming and reacted accordingly.

He could have got a striker. Tried to get a couple that fitted his mode including Simms and Nemeth. He could certianly have got a Chris Martin.
You don't seem to like him very much that's for sure. Personally i'm absolutely delighted at the squad he has put together in no time at all transforming the fortunes of the club.

A front 3 of Gelhardt Amad and Clarke, the 3 behind Michut, Neil and Ekwah.

Our right hand side has been the focal point for weeks, it's not a new thing

If we’d have had a decent fit striker or two all season we’d be top two by now. Today we would have been out of site with a half decent striker on the pitch.

Yes we are still playing the best football I’ve seen us play for years but anyone thinking not having a striker is not affecting us is deluded.

So there's no big striker for Gelhardt to feed off then?

I would swap Pritch for Michut in that formation.

Our RHS is not a new thing. That's why it needs a shake up. It's lovely to watch but it's becoming predictable AND defendable.

What would Pritchard do that Michut doesn't?

And.no there isn't a striker for Gelhardt to feed off, but your already well aware of that

And so are you and others on this thread yet people keep going "If only...." It's pointless.

For me Pritch is more aware where the goal is. Therefore a better player up front than Michut. I don't envy TM as it's not easy.

Happy to talk about the realities of the situation rather than pretending we can magic up a striker out of thin air. That's the point.

9 today and in most of the games he has been used

so at most 120 mins if that in total in over a month?

waste of his time and you can see he is not happy
Absolutely. I'm not arguing with you on that point. He should be back here playing 80 or 90 every game.

What about Diallo upfront and start playing Lihadji on the right? I was impressed with Lihadji when he came on last game, seems like a good player who can improve with game time.
