Striker crisis

For all you might wish otherwise, you can't force players to sign for us. We needed a back-up striker, someone prepared to spend the vast majority of his time on the bench watching JD (and probably hoping he gets injured), because we 'll probably never play with 2 up front. That alone probably explains why those named players wouldn't come - nothing to do with speed. At the end of the day, you're probably stuck with having to get an out-of-contract player who needs a paypacket - which is exactly what happened.
Absolute bollox man it's about options and challenging for a place in the team, what other club in the premier starts the season with only one striker in the squad a 34 year old at that.
The idea is to bench Defoe and use him as a back up, which is what Allardyce was going to do hence the 12 mill bid for Sahko.

We should start planning for life after Defoe anyway. He won't hang around given the state of things currently. Our attacking game plan looks based on the dog chasing a Frizbee model.

Perhaps the story about certain promises being made to Asoro and his family were true and the coaching staff believe he represents "life after Defoe"?

Promises?

Apparently he was courted by several top clubs but chose Sunderland after being given assurances that he would be given opportunities to develop his football here. I doubt he'll have been promised regular first team football mind, merely told that he wouldn't be left to rot on our bench and would be featuring as often as circumstances allowed.

letting Lens go without getting a decent striker in first was such a bad decision I'm wondering if it was the club's rather than Moyes', he said something the other day that the decision to get rid of some players was made before he arrived, maybe Lens was one of them.
Ive been thinking along the same lines lately, it's been reported weve been watching Ndong for over a year, that means he isn't a Moyse signing, but it took most of out budget, I personally think that's the problem with this club and why Sam insisted he had full control over sinings, someone is signing players that managers dont want, it def happened under Poyet.

Since you're in the know you'll know that he recognises we need a striker and was trying on several front (Rodriguez, Ings, Ulluoa, Naismith etc) to get one but failed to get it over the line.
This reminds me of that bit in premier passions where Reid and Murray are grovelling to the share holders. Saying sorry we went down but we nearly signed Hirst Scholes and Thomasson but couldn't get them over the line. Sounds as pathetic now as it did then

Hardly a crisis like, we had one striker and he got injured

Not like we have 5 injuries, Defoe will get injured, he is nearly 34

That a fair summary and insight into the current set up.

Shame safc didn't reach this conclusion and try and mitigate in the transfer window......

Club is in a crisis as Defoe has a knock and both asoro and victor are injured too.
Who the fuck will play up front Wednesday???

I wouldn't want Defoe to play in this game anyway; far too valuable to The Bigger Picture.

Stick big John upfront.
He can clamber on, and pull and push their defenders all owa and not give any penalties away.
