seems too close to the current crop of players to say anything interesting, entertaining or controversial. Dont think he has been a great choice by Sky

Ignorant post. Strauss offers objective inside comment on recent team mates from a top class player and captain, glad he's on board.

His insights into the current players and set up are interesting but everything else about his commentary is awful.

So what happens when the personnel in the England team changes and he no longer can offer the same insights? If I were Sky, I'd be letting him go after this series.

FWIW, I though Nasser was underused today. Did the first half hour and then I can't remember hearing him after that until post match.

Hussain is brilliant. Sky have a really good mix and I just dont think Strauss adds a lot at the minute

This.

The best tactical brain in the Sky's commentary box by a mile.

Give him a chance man.

Like everything in life, you need a bit of practice.

He mightn't want to do it long term anyway. To be on the regular Sky rota, you need to be prepared to spend a long time away from home on overseas tours and maybe he won't want to, who knows.

The same thing that has happened to previous captains whose team mates no longer play, ie they stay if they bring something different, I think the balance at present is excellent. Agree with you about Nasser, he has never been frightened to make unpopular statements and his honesty is refreshing.

genuinely funny as well. I remember when Hussain joined Sky and he seemed to naturally fit in with the rest, even Botham who he had obviously had a run in or two with. Strauss seems a little suspicious of the rest of the pundits and too loyal to be critical of any of Englands players, tactics, set up etc etc. That is fair enough but it doesnt make him particularly interesting to listen to. As someone else said, its early days so he should probably be given a bit more of a chance

This. Agnew said recently that Vic Marks was excellent as he could offer insight even though he knew none of the players and was from another era. Strauss was playing with ten of them less than a year ago and is just dull.
