Stokes retires from ODI cricket

Thought this would happen when he became test captain. Tbf, I thought it'd be T20's as well.

The schedule for players in all 3 formats for England is ridiculous. Plus with his time out last year and now taking on the test captaincy, you can't knock it if he feels this is the right call for him.

Probably a fair decision on reflection. Especially for an all rounder, it’s nigh on impossible to function for all formats. As test captain he can’t retire from that, and T20 is easier on the body than ODIs
Fair play, he’s more than earned his right to decide when to retire from any format.

Not sure where you begin to find a replacement for a player of that calibre, mind.

Said in the match thread , that I felt Ben should not play in the odis and rest to the saffers test matches

im shocked he’s gone to this extent though, however I also posted that World Cup winners were not performing and that it can be difficult to get into a mind set to climb the mountain again

im not happy but I will still say thanks Ben, you will always be a legend to me and that final is engrained in my mind forever

Not a shock. He's 31 now, has had mental health issues, very much a family man and the scheduling is becoming silly. Can imagine injuries are giving him grief also. Good luck to him, he's bowing out as a world champion.

Interesting.

Wasn’t Pietersen told that he couldn’t drop ODIs? Ie if he couldn’t play then he’d have to drop white ball altogether?

Stokes isn’t in our best T20 side either.
Agreed about the t20, I’ve never really felt Ben had cracked that in domestic, never mind international level

strangely last night I had a read through the World Cup thread in the Gold section. There’s a cracking vid right at the end, showing a crowd view of the super over
Wonder if they rest him tomorrow like last time he was here
No, he’s bowing out specifically after tomorrow
