Stifling debate

Stattos child

Full Back
Why do some posters feel the need to belittle anyone who they disagree with or bring up comments from years ago In an attempt to prove people wrong. IMO it stifles debate which this forum should all be about. Everyone who has an opinion will be wrong at some point, some however are never wrong

Don't know who you're referring to, but in a sense it doesn't matter because your post is right regardless.
Everyone needs the freedom to be wrong, to not know stuff and to change their minds without any of that being a criminal offence.

One persons ‘stifling debate’ is another persons ‘challenging views’ or researching to support their own point of view. Depends on circumstances I guess be interesting if you show some examples.

Can’t say I’ve noticed it on the cricket forum, but I recognise the type of behaviour the OP mentions from other, more toxic, parts of the forum which I read now and again but rarely post on

Is this an attempt to stifle debate by making people so self conscious about stifling debate they stop contributing? 🤔

I agree with previous posts that it's better than most other forums on RTG. The mods have also been proactive in cutting out some of the worst bickering and its become more civilised over time. There's one WUM, who I usually keep on ignore, and one lad who flies off the handle whenever you say owt he disagrees with, but I haven't found them so intolerable I'd want to leave the forum.

No you're wrong because 5 years ago you said the opposite so you must be a mag

There are some absolute nuggets elsewhere on here, but even if I see posts from regulars on here elsewhere that I disagree with, I let them off because they’re “one of us”. @GordonMuchallNo1Fan is one I would never agree with on politics for example (not that I tend to go on there much anyway) but because he’s a cricket forum regular I can let him off ;)

it won't mean much to you but the matchday meldrew was a god send when i was living down south for a taste of home.

and in modern times he's a top tier elite aficionado, the likes of @The Red Telephone and i can only gaze admiringly up from our beloved trapdoor stand and discuss how it must be bloody freezing up there even when it's swelting in the blue seats
