He answered a journalist's question? Deep down we are all singing from the same hymn sheet. It has to end, it serves no purpose whatsoever. As much as you dislike reading or hearing about his time there, he is as probably pig sick of being asked about it.
"If he wins Hull's first trophy he can expect a statue to be erected in his honour at the KC Stadium. "So the pigeons can s*** on it, yeah!" he joked. "The Sunderland fans would like that, wouldn't they?"
Did the interviewer really mention Sunderland? Anyway, here's an idea, if he is so pig sick of being asked questions about Sunderland he, or your media person, could instruct journalists that those questions are no longer welcome or relevant.

For the Hull fan - @potential

This is something @Definitely Maybe posted last month.

We felt the same as you do in the January of his second season. Contrary to what he tells you his 'Geordie roots' were never an issue, nobody chased him out of town or threw darts at him. He was always well supported and retained the backing of the crowd despite a 17 game, 4 month winless run in his first season. He was forgiven for the 5-1 defeat against the Mags then spent literally every press conference counting down the days til the next derby and talking about which songs he'd play if we were to beat them (we didn't, the team didn't turn up). But he had us flying in the league than January and was given a new, much welcomed contract on the back of it.

Then it went very wrong. From the January to his sacking at the end of November we won a total of 3 home games. He dismantled the decent team he'd built and replaced it with a job lot of shite that we've been unable to clear out since because of the wages they're on. His paranoia kicked in and he blamed anybody and everybody for his failings. He placed without any strikers away to Brighton in the cup then blamed 'the strikers' for us losing. His constantly blamed fans expectations when his record of 21 points from his last 27 games - bottom of the league relegation form - was questioned. He famously said "we're only Sunderland, let's not get ideas above our station" when his record was criticised. We were in or just outside the relegation zone when he was sacked. A section of the ground chanted "Bruce out" in the last minute of his penultimate game and the "Fat Geordie bastard" song for literally 1 minute when Wigan scored a 90th minute winner in his last game, otherwise he received none of the personal abuse he crows on about.

Since his sacking he's spouted complete and utter lies about us. He actually backtracked when he was pulled up about it on Goals on Sunday once, but the admittedly fantastic job he's done at Hull has given him free reign to spread complete lies and fabricate abuse, which is why he is hated. A good chunk actually wished him well when he left, but in answer to your question, the reason we hate him is the lies, moaning and whinging.

Ok you are here for a row, I ain't.

Let us play a simple yes/no game and check off a few points.

Is this the first Steve Bruce thread - No
After how many replies on any thread can I tick off the following :-

Fat Geordie Kernt - check
Greggs Pasties - check
Potato Head - check
Got us to tenth etc etc - check
Run of defeats - check

and on and on and on in a similar vein. Why do I have to read all that (to me) crap to hope to chance upon a little glimmer that at long last it is time to move on. Mr jardine on here sounds a very lone voice.

It might have helped you if I had put quote marks around ambitions/expectations, I thought that was something else SB had said that was used to fuel the hatred. Something I read on another thread. On here.

So, to answer your question what does a Hull City supporter see as reasonable expectations for Sunderland? My truthful honest opinion of what the future holds for you?

First off the prem. 46 different clubs have played in this league from 1992 to the end of this season. Only 7 have been ever present. That is not good odds for staving off relegation at some time in the future.

Qualifying for Europe through league placing, the ever present seven have those to share between themselves. Nah, call it 6, Villa is the seventh.

Qualifying for the Champions League - NURSE!!!!!!!!

Which leaves the cups. The only chance us fans have left, for us to have our day in the sun, some glory, but the fookin bean counters aren't interested.
Staving off the possibility of relegation is all that counts.

Managerial stability??? - NURSE more medication!!!! One sniff of 17th and the manager is out the door.

Bring through the young 'uns from the academy. What fookin academy. We spent the money on an 8 million pound player to stave off etc etc etc.

I could go on and on but I am probably boring you shitless. I will leave you with this very very painful observation. As great a history your club has, Cup Wins, League Titles, unbelievable support through it all, if you are letting the manager of Hull City get under your skin, then the game is really up, isn't it?
To answer some of your points

No I'm not here for a row, but I'm wondering why you're camping down on a Sunderland board the day after your team have played an historic cup final in their history. I was buzzing after our Carling Cup weekend earlier this year, and was catching up with all the craic, photos, tales from the weekend, watching clips from the crowd, from the game etc. The last thing I'd have thought of doing would be logging on to a Hull City board and argue the toss over someone else's ex-manager.

The Hull City manager isn't getting under my skin by any means. I never really wanted him at the club in the first place, as I have never really seen the love-in around him. From my perception he has been an itchy-pants manager, with eyes only on the ultimate prize which is that he would love to take over at either St James or Old Trafford. Owt else is just a means to an end. I appreciated what he did for a while, but wasn't surprised when it all went to shit, and whilst I wasn't clamouring for him to leave, as I really don't get this concept of changing your manager as often as you change your underpants, I wasn't exactly crying in my beer when he got the push.

However, he is our ex-manager, and he decided to bring up the self-generated myth that everyone in Sunderland hates him because of his alleged "Geordie roots", so I felt that as I am a regular of many years standing on this board, that I was perfectly entitled to contribute my thoughts on this, a Sunderland message board.

Had your mob won yesterday, I would have been torn. I have lived in Hull, and enjoyed it as a city, decent nights out, folks in the main were fine. I always want a Northern team to beat a London based team in events like a cup final, but I know that somewhere down the line he would turn the whole situation around and rather than revelling in the success of Hull, there would be a little bit somewhere deep down in his psyche that wouldn't be able to resist a little dig at us. It's what he does, like it or lump it.

I think mebbes it's cos I called him a fat geordie bastard when he was managing Birmingham and we beat them in the FA Cup on a cold and frosty evening a few years back. Childish perhaps, but it didn't half feel good at the time, and I don't regret it for a second.

I made the thread because I just think he would have been smug and even more Anti-Sunderland if they had won.

All managers are entitled to be bitter when they are sacked by a club, but the level of bitterness and resentment he has for us is staggering. At least 5/6 times this season, and more times last season, he brought up the fact Sunderland sacked him. He finished 10th and was still sacked, there's a reason it's his catchphrase ffs!

Everyone was really patient I thought with Bruce. We had some good times (Beat Liverpool and Arsenal, point at Old Trafford, beat Chelsea away, 6th at one point in the season) but lets not forget. Under him we experienced

a 10-game winless run in 2010/11 that dropped us from 6th to about 14th
a 14-game winless run in 09/10 we went from about 8th to 16th
3 home games won between January 11 and December 11 when he was sacked
3 poor derby performances and 2 defeats (One was embarrassing)
The sale of key players and new ones brought in, of a much worse standard
His excuses after nearly every defeat (Fans expectations, Injuries, His Geordie roots, Strikers, Referees,British Airways..)

He lasted 2 and a half years, and was sacked.

He can't move on, and until he does, he will deserve everything he gets from our fans/

Only when asked. He never once said he got sacked for being a Geordie just that when it turned sour it didn't help and given the "fat Geordie bastard" chants and numerous post about him being a mag on here id say he had a point.
I wouldn't he's tried to put all his failings either being a Geordie or our "expectations" he's a prick.
Nothing to do with he fucked up big style.

That should end this thread.

Let mr jardine and potential debate between themselves.
They have their views - one based on ignorance of the facts the other with a personal interest in fighting for Bruce's reputation.

He was very disingenuous towards this club and its fans and continues to be so.

When he looks at his bank balance he would do well to remember the opportunity he was given and the support he received from the clubs board and the vast majority of fans right until the end.

"So we move on (I won't I'm still seething and embarrassed they sacked me)..we finished tenth (they might not have heard that).. as I said repeatedly we finished tenth, the third highest finish in sixty years maybe...it still hurts but we move on..." f***ing MOVE ON YOU FAT BASTAD

personally feel Hull will find out all about Steve Bruce as a manager next season , feel free to bump if im wrong , he has brought the vitriol on himself .

It was his 3rd season here where it started to go pear-shaped.

Add into that the loss of the "First season in the PL buzz" and the strains of the Europa League. I can see them struggling badly

Some good summaries on this page alone, I can't be arsed to trawl through the whole thread.

One thing that sticks in my mind, and I'm crap at remembering stats, is that when he arrived we were I think 17th and when he left I think we were 16th.

All that effort, all that wheeling and dealing of transfers, a gross spend of ... did I hear $60 million? ... Including the Bent and Hendo money (neither of which was replaced) to move us up one position.

Aye cheers Steve.
