He got the games left, the number of points reuired and the intials of the opposition manager incorrect. What could go wrong with his calculations.

 The opening post is a stark warning to those who take to this board whilst pissed.[DOUBLEPOST=1386338352][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'd be keeping me head down for a week or two, or at least til the rotten b'stards on here stop bumping it with unnecessary comments ;)
seriously though, the OP is a classic, an epic fail worthy of legendary status

There are 14 games yet to play, and we are on 8 points. Which means we require 2.3 points per game to get 40 points (22 points from 14 games.) It's quite possible that we won't need 40 points as that total has only been required twice in the last 10 years and on one of those occasions West Ham went down with 43 points.

However 40 points is what teams who want to stay up are aiming for. 2.3 points per game over the course of a season would get you 86 or 87 points, which is title winning form.

On the other hand, we've had all of our hard home games and have quite an easy home run in to the end of the season, and we're only 5 points behind West Ham and Fulham, which, given our abortion of a start to the season and our terrible run of home games is quite frankly amazing! Everyone said when they viewed the fixture list that it would be hard with most people expecting us to be in the relegation zone at christmas, just hoping that we weren't too far out of sight. Well Christmas is three weeks away, our form is improving and our run of home games is about to end. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, starting at tottenham tomorrow. Lets get ABV the sack!

It's a remarkable feat to sink your own thread so wholeheartedly and so quickly before even finishing the first sentence. Deserves an award..

A little kindness from me today, FTM, recognizing your alcohol-induced stab at this.

The issue is not absolute it is relative. So, let's pick a 40-point safety target. Currently, every team from Stoke on down is on pace to finish with less than 40 points and West Brom is on pace for 41pts. So, to finish with 40 points, the bottom seven teams all have to play the next 24 games better than they have played the first 14. Based on what I've seen since GP took over I am very confident that we will. Can you really say that about any of the other six??
