All the papers are commenting on it now a few hours after that initial story. One has quotes from Martin Bain.

SAFC chief executive Martin Bain said: “In recent months we have undertaken a detailed review of the club’s entire operation. “It is clear that the business had lost its focus and we now have to ensure that we are better equipped to be able to concentrate on the areas that are key to taking Sunderland AFC forward. “Our infrastructure provides a tremendous platform and it is important that we capitalise on this by channeling our efforts into those areas that will have an impact. “We want to ensure that the football club is in the best possible position to grow stronger, both on and off the field. “The decisions have not been taken lightly. “The internal process required in order to undertake the changes has already commenced and club staff have been advised of the procedures and timescales involved.”

the club can fuck off. These wages are absolutely peanuts in the grand scheme of things and removing them will make very lttle difference to the overall debt levels. How much are we spending on a loan repayment that was completely unnecessary when a billionaire owner could just be owed that himself.
 You do not know that.

And even if it were so, shall the club employ people just because it can?

You can't argue with that. It's sad to see people lose their job but if there isn't a job for them then there's not a lot you can do about it.

I wonder if he interlocked his fingers and bit his bottom lip a la David Brent once he'd finished that statement.

Cattermole, Larsson, Rodwell, Kirchhoff & Borini for starters.

Haven't put in a decent shift for months.

These should be first to lose their jobs.

He mentions changes, jobs are made redundant not people, those in those jobs can be re-deployed.

The shite lazy arsed players should subsidize the wages of the threatened workers so they can keep there jobs
Every member of the first team squad, manager, and coaches should sponsor whichever members of staff are to be made redundant. Staff keep their jobs, players and the club receive good publicity......everyone's a winner!

Finally being run as a proper business, about time as well.

It's been a gravy train for too many for too long , never mind the bumbling along with no real leadership in the boardroom.

If some lose their jobs through it , so be it, not nice for them personally but such is life.

For all of this post has its truth and I agree with. There are far many honest, hard working folk who are losing their jobs.
Nobody will know who is going yet. All that has been started today will be the statutory 90 day consultation period. During that time any company must listen to counter proposals and applications for voluntary redundancy.

Well staff received emails after the meeting telling them they were at risk today. One of my mates got one and the other didnt.

You wouldn't sack someone in a "normal job" for being on the long term sick though

Not just that for me - You can team bond in any place in the world. No need to go to one of the most expensive cities in the world to just bond, cycle and use a gym.
Looks pretty stark now when put in context of job losses.
