If the likes of Jayawardene and Sangakkara have played in the final of the world cup (50 over format) and are now playing the IPL (20 over format), that is approximately 3.5 months of solid cricket

They are going to be fresh as dasies come our test series in the cold and damp May of the English summer

This cricket overkill will just eventually kill the game as more and more players retire early or concentrate on one format or the other

It will also make a mockery of the tour itself if all their best players are out of gas

So you're getting your excuses in already for when England hopefully beat Sri Lanka this Summer.

I think we all agree that there is too much international cricket in the schedule and that something needs to be done to prevent players burning out too early but many of our team will also have played for long periods without too much rest so it should still be a fair contest.

1. When was the last time England didnt win a series in May in England?

2. IPL isnt classified as international cricket. Bell, Trott, Strauss, Pietersen, Collingwood, Broad, Swann and Anderson have been told to have complete rest for 6 wickets which is why they are not playing in IPL and nor in the County Championship, so it isnt a fair contest but in general terms its just a farce. If I am paying £70 for a ticket to a test at Lords I want to see Sri Lankas two best players in fine fettle, keen and up for it, not jaded and not being able to wait to get home for rest and recuperation
