Sri Lanka v England

I've always disliked jayawardene, even when qualified for the semi's, and in a pretty much insurmountable position, he has to angle shoot.

Team selection absolutely barmy. Briggs should have been a shoe in all tournement, Bresnan and Dernbach in and out seemingly game by game, Bopara is in the worst form of his life and shouldn't have even made the squad. Morgan at 5 is laughable considering we had Wright, Bairstow and Patel ahead of him.

After executing 2010 perfectly, we have made a right hash of this one.

i refuse to blame broads inept captaincy (of which he needs to be relieved and morgan put in immediately), his and flowers team selections that baffles everyone bringing in ravi (poor sod) and changing a successful winning team and dropping briggs for patel (patel is no sort of int bowler) or the decision to play bairstow as keeper (ahead of butler)

i blame new zealand, the selfish bastards, they could have won and got us through to the semis by default, they are the root cause of all of englands ineptness, if it wasnt for them we could have been getting smashed by the aussies in the semis

oh and i also feel that if the icc can make allowances for malinga and murali to blatantly chuck the ball, finn kicking the stumps should be accommodated also

Felt sorry for Bopara today. Shocking decision to throw him into that scenario.

Agree that Briggs should have played all tournament. Aside from that and Ravi today I don't think the selections were too bad, just don't think our batters are up to it.

They couldn't really do much with the batting line-up they had picked, on paper it looked exciting and could clear the ropes, but in reality you need more than a bit of brawn to score runs on sub-contienent. The majority of the batsmen picked are very average players of spin, I wouldn't have been against taking someone like Owais Shah as a bit of a horses for courses selection, only really Morgan out of the squad taken is a top player of spin.

Interesting stat I've just seen on Twitter. When England won in 2010 we never once concedd 150. Here its been 170,179, 148 and 179 v test nations.

Now I know conditions will have played a big part in that, but all the blame seems to be going on the batsmen, but some of our bowling has been awful and left the batsmen with too much to do.

The selection of the bowling attack was never consistent. Briggs should have played every game as a second spinner and we should never go into a game at international level with Patel as a frontline bowler. Bresnan and Dernbach were rotated too often, I don't think either have enough quality to be dangerous on those type of pitches but neither had chance to bowl themselves into form or rthymn.
