Hardly ever hear commentators refer to Queens Park Rangers instead of the much easier to say Q.P.R. either. And they are never called Queen's Park, the place.

Forest is their real name.

Their name is Nottingham Forest. Shortening it to ‘Notts Forest’ or ‘Forest’ is exactly the same as shortening Wolverhampton Wanderers to ‘Wolves’ or Tottenham Hotspur to ‘Spurs’.
