Springwatch with Hellsbells

My daffodils have started coming through. I'm a bit gutted that's all I'll get this year. I dug all my beds out in September and didn't put any new bulbs in.

Best off buying seed at this time of year and putting fat balls out. Once you have magpies sniffing around it keeps other birds away.

Just got the bird box off the fence to clear it out ready for the spring. I haven’t had the camera on for a while, as we’d not had birds the two years after our first year in 2022, and it had a few connections problems last year.

When I opened the box to clean it, we’d had a nest last year, and there was one dead baby bird in it, quite big, which means they must have managed to raise a full clutch.

Cleaned it out and put it back up, camera working (for now) so let’s see where we get to in 2026. 🤞

I did the fatballs, but the Crows and Jackdaws took the whole lot at once. A fatball each in their mouths, very clever how they got the top open

I have a little Robin come visiting but rarely gets any chance of the food

Crows and Jackdaws are right twats. I once watched a pair of crows chasing a heron in flight. You would think a bird the size of a heron wouldn't take any shit from a crow. Good mouse catchers though.

Seagulls, Crows and Jackdaws fighting each other for food

Years ago used to get loads of Starlings, rarely see them these days

I was watching Wild London on tv the other day. Seagull got a pigeon and tried to drown it, then some Kooks went in and rescued it

Been an active week on the feeders here. Seen more chaffinches then usual, and bullfinches. I don't get the goldfinches much though. Love watching the long tailed tits but have noticed blackbird numbers dropping off. Had 3 feral parakeets which I'd not seen before. Made a right mess but a couple of robins helped to clear up.

Superb.
Most of the natural feed sources are scare now it’s late Winter.
The secret is to never stop feeding and you will be surprised that they will keep coming back.
Watching my sunflower heart feeder late afternoon literally non stop with tits and finches constantly feeding. Lovely to watch 👍

Ps - not sure where you get your hearts from but look at places like B&M or the Pound shops as you can pick up a 20kg sack less than £20.Decent quality and will save you money. Will keep forever if in a dry place. I use a plastic bin and avoids mice etc.
