Springwatch with Hellsbells

A few tits have been casing my box of late. I know that sentence is akin to something sid james might have said carry on style but there we are.

Anyway not sure whether they’ve set up home so will have to keep an eye on things

3rd year nesting in a tree in the garden.
They have been roosting all winter in it.

This Mrs (no) takes the pictures as a photographer.

They are selecting and reckon you will be in Mate.
Mole population has trebled in our garden, plus a few badgers...only need Brian Meh to turn up.

Nothing worse with a lovely lawn 😇

I noticed them on the washing line right next to the box the other week but not seen them since. Wonder if recent bad weather has put them off maybe?

They will still be looking, tad cold at present.
Two weeks or so and they will start building the nest.

I put up a fair few boxes in the trees along the road coming into our village.
Noted a Great Tit going in and out of one the other weekend.
Hope you get lucky mate 👍

Had 1 in my garden for about 4 weeks last summer. It went round the edge of lawn which is bordered with sleepers and dug tunnels and disturbed the earth which the Blackbirds absolutely loved and continued the rampage digging it up further looking for worms and other food stuff, was like a ploughed field. Although I love wildlife this was to much for me and It was like Caddyshack trying to catch the bugger. Finally caught it in scissor trap and no more problems except for Blackbirds are now into routine to scratch

We've renamed it an interesting meadow.

Our garden is too big to shutter, plus the cat has no interest anymore...she's been known to kill 40 plus a summer. The dogs shit in the holes so that's a bonus.

Use the barrel traps mate.
Much more effective.

We were constantly throwing out food the cats wouldn't eat which stunk the bin out. We now collect it and each morning we spread it on the lawn.

Starlings, blackbirds, big crows, magpies and a rare gull, all love it. Smaller birds eat the seeds and fat balls and mealworm peanut butter.

Also put slices of apple and chopped up bacon fat out and they love that too, especially the blackbirds.

You want to be careful it doesn't attract mice and rats as well

The Springwatch bird box is back up this year but we’ve only had very fleeting visits so far. It’s so much wetter and colder than last year so it might be a late nesting season.

Seen red kites circling in pairs very high in the sky. It’s different from the circling they do when looking for food which is military in terms of covering a big area quickly and efficiently, and is done solitary. Would this be red kites courting?
