Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

REDEFinition

Watched this yesterday at the cinema.

Great film and I’m not a massive Marvel fan. The animation was amazing and definitely brings the comics to life better than grown men/women in costumes.

You need to see the first one for it to make more sense mind.

It really is a masterpiece in animation and the script is pretty decent too. So how long until the next one?

March 2024.

I thought this one was too long and
we're only half way through.

Still class mind, just missed the surprise of the first for me.

Marvel is the ultimate loophole spinning tosh (DC not far behind)! Works for comics but as films, Christ, it's nauseating. They probably are more suited to being animation adaptations.

Not my cup of tea these two films, but they're meant to be very good.

Thing is though it's grand for those of us of a certain age seeing the comics we grew up with being brought to life?

I do worry about the talk about bringing it into a live action version. Why can’t they be separate? The whole multiverse, quantamania thing has got out of hand in my opinion. It works in animation as the Spiderverse has proven so vividly but I just struggle with live action versions that don’t just deal with character development, a really nasty villain and some inventive fight scenes. They have gone down a rabbit hole with this multiverse thing and seemingly look like getting lost in it.

That's fair enough to say, but has the novelty not worn off? I mean there's no real stakes to them in terms of story. If one is released and doesn't do well or comes to the end of a particular canon it just gets a reboot. I used to love Batman comics as a kid, I would've been happy for it to be left after the Bale films.

I think the big bucks is starting to come from the adult-orientated version pioneered somewhat by Deadpool, then Logan?
I sense they're starting to split the superhero franchises off in two directions on this score.

Have to say I'm not arsed about this next phase in the MCU as it's after my time but they'll have an audeience big enough now to continue it.

Wish DC would pull its finger out of its arse though. But saying that, beyond Batman, Superman and the main villains, there's not much play there.
And aye, the reboots are ridiculous; it's putting the best actors for the job out because of a shit film. Cavill and Affleck were very good in their respective roles.
