Speakman gone

I was just wondering to meself was it Speakman lobbying for Will Still? Le Bris's KLD's man.
Aye, could be something along those lines. Not that he’s being punished but maybe one of his calls has shown the limitations of the UK market. Obviously Still was in France but he was on British radars generally.

Did feel like a matter of time once Ghisolfi came in.

Was very critical of him at times, particularly throughout 23/24, but he made a huge contribution to our rise from League One back to the top-flight and hope he does really well wherever he ends up unless it's at the visitors.

I hope we're not running before we can walk at this level. There is no guarantee Ghisolfi can have as good a window as he did last summer. Just like players, he won't hit the heights with every signing

It feels like Speakmans job since the summer was to trim the squad of the talent that was not going to continue the journey with the club into the premiership. It feels that job was pretty well complete in the Jan transfer window. I do think the Adingra could well have been an almost hangover recruitment from Speakman that has only affirmed KLD's decision to move forward without him.

Said at the time that the club were never clear on the role and responsibility of both of them which probably suggested it was more a transition. If they both had distinct roles in the future structure it likely would have been explained at the time.

Shame for Speakman but in a way it’s a positive example of how ruthlessly ambitious the club has become. KLD obviously decided in the summer that we could improve on the DOF role and bought in someone to do that regardless of any sentiment towards Speakman. Ultimately that’s what top clubs do.

Tbh I’ve been thinking that privately. What’s the difference between a sporting director and a director of football?? In any case I’ll always have fond memories of speakman. His vision got us Reg, wembo and many of the lads we all love
