Southampton spying compendium thread

Last night the official ELF statement on the appeal said..

"A league arbitration panel has tonight dismissed Southampton Football Club's appeal against the independent disciplinary commission's sanction following the admittance of multiple breaches of EFL regulations ...."

That struck me as being a strange way to describe the "three" charges of spying that we know Southampton had admitted to (Boro, Oxford and Ipswich). Given Southampton's change of tone - the Club appears to be more resigned to their disqualification - it suggests to me that between the original hearing and yesterday' appeal more cases of their spying may have already been uncovered.

If there has been we will probably not find out the details of those until after the Final. I am sure that the EFL doesn't want to take even more attention away from their showcase event.

It’ll be interesting to see how Eckart’s departure is handled in terms of the scale of this and inside knowledge.

1) Resign with huge apology taking all the blame himself.

2) sacked for gross misconduct with little or no payoff. Blame firmly attached to him for going rogue.

3) leaves the club with carefully worded statement issued and undisclosed (very large) payout. NDA signed in his way out.

Whichever scenario will probably quite telling.

I am not inclined to believe anyone from Southampton FC after what has gone on.

For a start I think all this fake outrage from the players is to try and convince the football community they knew nothing about it.

So when Eckert says to his players:

“Right lads when Morris takes a corner if he raises both hands he is looking to drop the ball on the corner of the six yard box. Ayling will make a late run from the penalty spot to that point. Ross, you can steer clear initially but make sure you pick him up at the corner of the six yard box.”

At this point either the players think their manager is clairvoyant or they are in on it.
This is spot on

If Freiburg had spied they would have tracked Tielemans for last nights goal from the corner

May look foolish going back on the initial penalty but they should.

It's ridiculous kicking them out. They won it fair & square on the pitch.
This is all about whats happened off the pitch mate, keep up.

I'd love to know who was behind it all, who actually thought it was a good idea. The people who then agreed to it and covered it up want to be shot with shit.

Let’s be brutally honest every team in every game cheat to gain an unfair advantage.
The faking injury, time wasting all part of the modern game. Clearly has no bearing on this case.

Millwall could ruin them if they find any evidence, the likes of Wrexham will probably sue for a huge amount but then get around £5m like Boro did from Derby. I know it’s a different issue but there’s a kind of precedent created somewhat.

Millwall were a single point from automatics and they drew with them in January so a win there and they’d have been in the Premier League, Southampton admitting they spied on Ipswich will help them as it adds a bit of doubt if Millwall would have got automatics. The legal teams are going to get very rich that’s for sure.

There’s a quote from one of the players praising how deep and in detail the manager is. He even quotes saying something like it’s as if we know what they are going to do 🤣🤣 I mean it’s clear players knew Haway we know players ain’t the brightest overall but not everyone of them is thick. And as you say if they have been giving info like corner routines or runs made etc you’d have to be extremely naive to think how does this bloke know all of this.

Unless the players were aware of the spying (and it is probable), in which case they have no leg to stand on. I'm not sure what kind of contract with the club fans would have around this (likely none) but they could argue for costs incurred relating to the PO final perhaps. Other clubs, very possibly.

It's certainly not over by a long stretch.

It’s gonna knack them for years I reckon.

Interesting that when Bielsa did it in 2019 (I think) there was no widespread call for him to resign, or even that much contempt for him or what he had done.

He did a press conference, brought out a load of dossiers and analytical info, and basically said “this is me, I’m a sad information junkie”. And then Leeds got a fine and everyone moved on.

He then went on to orchestrate one of the greatest sporting gestures of fairness by getting his players to concede an own goal, and is generally regarded as a good person and is hero worshipped by Leeds fans.

Compare that to Eckert, who is about to get sacked, tarred and feathered.

I totally agree with the punishment to the club, but I don’t think Eckert should have the rest of his career destroyed by this. He’s been stupid but he doesn’t deserve that.

If I was a Southampton player id be asking for my promotion bonus. I wouldn't lose out on potentially thousands because a illegal management decision that seemingly had little consequence meant we didn't get promoted
