Southampton spying compendium thread

All concerned clubs have played one another twice this season, they already have lots of information of how they play, set pieces etc. The preparation for Hull and Boro won't be affected.
Well it will be for hull, its naive to think it wouldnt. They have a week to fully plan and go over everything to drill it into their players specifically for this match. A few days before theyre now having to forget all that time and effort to focus on Boro. Southampton and Boro only had to focus on drilling their team for 1 specific opponent meaning no confusion or conflicting tactics. The preparation for one team ahead of their biggest game of the season is redundant through no fault of their own. The fact theyve played each other twice or have had short turn around before is irrelevant to the fact imo. But theres no solution that doesnt create some knock on issue really

They can still make it difficult for the EFL I believe if they want to argue procedural grounds. There is no doubt that the process has had to be rushed through due to the circumstances and things like the 14 day rule have been discarded with. If they agreed to that then it maybe weakens their case but seems some suggestions they could appeal today on the timeline and if successful it creates a nightmare for the EFL with dates.

They also still could, although the chances are low, apply for an injunction today even if they lose and take further action outside of the EFL process.
The EFL have the power in their regulations to abridge time periods in disciplinary cases if there’s a compelling reason to do so, which clearly there is.

I’m not buying that the owners of the club didn’t know spying was going on. The managers argument was that this is normal practice on the continent. They’ve admitted to at least doing this 4 times (that’s if they are telling the truth, it will deffo be more).
Even when they scored against Boro a Southampton player gestured binoculars action to a Boro player to wind him up. Southampton fans singing “we spy when we want”. This smug, I’m cheating and getting away with it and you can’t do fuck all about attitude needs punishment.

I disagree.
If it's true that every other team has been cheated they can't just cancel the whole season., and by your judgement then surely giving Hull a bye is not fair on the rest of the division.
They (Southampton) were caught trying to cheat Boro out of a play off final place, so imo the only solution is to reinstate the club that were knocked out unfairly (especially as it's a knockout competition).
Any proof of cheating throughout the season should be subject to points deduction/demotion and fines.

I'm not flat out against Boro being in the final, I half hope they win it. I just feel for Hull - they've came out of this in the worst position (bar Southampton, obviously) through no fault of their own, and when you couple that with other teams not getting the same 'justice' as Boro have been given, it just seems a bit daft the more I think about the fact they haven't just gave the tie to Hull.

It'd obviously be unfair on Boro if Hull were given the tie - Southampton gained an advantage by cheating. However, it would be just as unfair as Wrexham not making the play-offs due to the cheating, and Arsenal missing out on a potential FA Cup due to potential cheating.

If the punishment of a points deduction next season is enough vindication for Wrexham, then why would it not be for 'Boro?

Sadly Honk, given all the evidence thus far presented, and all the additional reports and circumstantial evidence suggesting a much wider campaign of spying, I doubt they'll be allowed to play in the final.
Agreed.

Because their manager/coach has admitted to the spying charges levelled against Southampton, I just cannot see them being reinstated to the final, though on appeal, they may possibly have their fine, or their points deduction, reduced.

Imo the fairest thing would be to have a one off game Millwall vs Boro and they get a shot in the final.

Youd have to delay the play off final though and potentially play it outside wembley.

Id have made it a Boro v Wrexham semi, delayed the final by a week. And probably give Hull a goal start for the inconvenience.
