Southampton spying compendium thread

But theres a range if punishments listed iirc. So they must judge each case on certain criteria.
Quite likely, yes ... maybe it ranges from just a peek and remembering something to a full on UHD filming and analysis with graphics. I don't really see the ease of accessing an area to cheat as a mitigating circumstance 🤷‍♂️

Something is going on there. Firstly they say they would be going on sale tomorrow. Then they said they’d be going on sale friday. Now it’s all been deleted.

Pretty sure against Sheff United they released their ticketing information before us
Yeah i think so. I was very much of the view they get a fine and something like suspended points deduction, but does feel now like they could potentially boot them out of the play offs.

An amazing number of posters seem to mention that Boro couldn’t beat them at home or score etc etc. surely there not all as think as shit? WTF difference does that make? The score in the first leg is irrelevant, the score in the second leg is irrelevant, the aggregate score is irrelevant, the £200m is irrelevant.
Southampton cheated and that’s it.

Yes agree with this. Also saying “an iPhone lol” like it matter

Attempting to watch the oppo train is serious foul play. That’s all that really matters

And this is the exact point.

Bizzarely Southampton as a club are trying to sell the story that this lad, off his own back:
Took a day off in the week leading up to the 2nd leg.
Drove to Hurwoth from Southampton (or flew to Teesside).
Bought a coffee in the golf club.
Hid behind a tree
Starting filming
Ran away when confronted (including getting changed)

AND that the management team knew nothing about it.
Trump style bullshit.
It’s up to the EFL and Boro to prove it. Seems like a young and eager intern trying to impress his employer without their knowledge so far.

The same exact people would also say “I wouldn’t give a toss if it happened to us” but still mention Jimmy Hill 50 years later. Everyone’s heads would be on mars if someone from Coventry was spotted doing it to us last season

This, Southampton clearly thought they were gaining enough of an advantage to make it a worthwhile risk.

Proving it may be tough, but it’s more likely he was known to be doing it than not imo

They’re separate points

I don't see why, it's the intent and the act that's breaking the rules, not the lengths someone went to ... filmed from a tree or from a specially commissioned Southampton satellite, just the same broken rule.
In my opinion the breaking of the rule will be the first thing they establish but all that does for me is then give them the green light to look at a load of other information.

The EFL will want to ensure they can demonstrate that the punishment dished out is proportionate in order to protect themselves as much as they against the inevitable legal action which will follow their decision (from either Boro or Southampton)

They’ll look at intent, type of information gathered, how it was used, was it known throughout the club, who knew etc etc etc

Rightly or wrongly if they went through all that and found there wasn’t that much information gathered, of not much significance then no way would they stop Southampton playing in the final. Similarly if that evidence gathering is damning then they would feel more confident doing exactly that.

Sadly the decision won’t be about sporting integrity, whatever they say, the EFL will now be in self protection mode and desperate to have their decision seen, legally, as proportionate and reasonable given the circumstances.

They can’t impose a fine, because if they go onto win promotion, then the fine is coming out of the millions they’ll be wrongly getting for being promoted. It’s not really a fine if it’s coming out of stolen money in first place.

And points and a fine don’t help the injured party of Boro.

Has to be a complete removal from Final.
Boro have to be at Wembley v Hull.

Can’t see there being any other outcome. Keith Downey’s Sky video retracing the guy’s movements on the day just concludes the matter, surely, the Board can’t do any other.
