Southampton spying compendium thread

This is the crux of it, Boro can't just be gifted a place at Wembley when they have already lost in the semi final. It makes a complete mockery of the competition and why should Hull have to play a team that weren't even good enough to get to the final in the first place?
The issue is Southampton spied on the training session, illegally undermining the Brough preparations.

I don’t think for a minute that Hull would complain about having to play Brough in the final. I think Southampton have given up any right to prosper further in the play-offs.

Aye, knew Leeds got done for it but spying wasn't in the rules then so was just fairness and sporting integrity. Guess Saints have asked for more time so they can get their story straight
I think saints are just trying to kick the can down the road and hope they get promoted before it can all be resolved. By that point they may be under premier league rules and EFL will struggle to touch them until they are relegated again

Is that actually the case though? If clubs have come down with sanctions against them i.e. Leicester, QPR IIRC, why cant it work in reverse?

As far as im aware they won’t be a member of the PL until a certain date. Something to do with shares of the PL. it’s not instant membership to the PL.

Leicester got promotion before they could be penalised and basically only got punishment this season for this historic breach. Problem with having separate governing body's i guess

Absolutely, but if they can drag it out like say man city are then that date will come sooner rather than later

Chance for the football authorities to make a stand.

They won't.

They will take too long, too much will have transpired by then, so they'll come up with a fine in Decemeber ...

I think the EFL will stall in the hope Southampton are beaten in the final and then they will slap them with a fine. Should Southampton go up then I would imagine not only Boro but also Hull might want to explore legal avenues.

Some of the Southampton antics and the spying might be a bit shit, but I'd be absolutely staggered if there is anything but a heavy fine.

Surely there's no way on earth they are booted from the playoffs

But then you could argue that the reason Boro didn't get to the final was because of the alleged cheating.

Also, on a similar note - didn't sunderland get 'awarded' a promotion when they were beaten in a play off final ?
