Southampton spying compendium thread

I'd be utterly amazed if it stops at just him.

Those above him, maybe even right up to the owner I don't know how hands on he is, SHOULD have been asking what had brought about the enormous swing in performances especially given that it was basically the same playing squad.

I simply cannot believe Eckert was given complete free rein and no checks or balances were in place from those higher up the chain of command? That's utter nonsense especially when you consider it was his first senior role.
Id be amazed if he doesnt receive some kind of ban from football for at least a year.

Can't help but feel sorry for Southampton, not especially for the club, but for the fans and the players who have been let down. Also think Hull have been forgotten about, not knowing who they were going to be playing until a couple of days before one of the biggest games in the clubs history, never mind their fans having to readjust to a farcical change in kick off time.

Whilst all this has being going on, and one of the harshest penalties in football handed down, we still await the outcome of 115 charges against one of the richest clubs the world, who so far have had over 3 years and counting to concoct a defence . Talk about one law for the rich and not the poor

As much as this is really bad for the fans I’m also thinking what the Southampton players must be thinking if they are innocent of any knowledge or involvement into this fiasco. I’m already hearing there are clauses into contracts for reaching the play off final for a start, then there is potential lost wages for players who were only 1 game away from the big time. I think Southampton might take some recovering from this. Also if/when the manager is sacked or not will tell you how involved the owner is as I’m of the belief by what has been said that he isn’t involved. Imagine this manager and those responsible might find more than a years football ban coming but more likely lawsuits from players and the owners.

Im all for this like its hilarious after their players were running round pretending to hold binoculars and their fans singing "we'll spy when we wan"

Love to see them punished further.

I do feel sorry for hull the whole build up has been about this and no doubt will he all they talk about on the day.

I couldn't care about the players or fans they were happy to take the piss when they beat boro.

Presumably the FA can take action against everyone involved at the club, including the owner, if its found that they were involved or complicit in the cheating? Eckert might be looking like the fall guy, can't make Salty Bill the patsy shirley, but if he's been given the nod, or even a blind eye turned, by someone up the ladder, it's systemic and approved by the senior leadership.

The players will have obviously been privy to the information gleaned from the spying antics re their training methods in the run up to the game. Can't imagine that they weren't told that Boro were practising certain methods for set pieces etc prior to the play off.

Feel for the fans and players but any sympathy I had for the club left the second they appointed Lord Pannick to defend them in the appeal - the same lawyer who defended Partygate, the tories Brexit lawyer and the person responsible for for City's 115 charges being kicked into the long grass. The go-to man for corrupt people trying to defend the indefensible.

There's obviously a rot at the heart of that club. I don't think the decision to spy on rivals happened in a vacuum here.

If we beat Coventry on the pitch and then got kicked out because some young lad from the backroom team had filmed a bit of their training I think we'd be fuming.
Whether you'd be fuming or not is totally irrelevant.
Don't know if you were around when Sunderland were promoted after LOSING a play off final, but if that happened now would you be happy if there was a similar scenario now and the ruling went against your club?

Yes, Boro lost over two legs to Southampton, but they obviously didn't win fair and square.
We were cheated so the team that cheated were rightfully kicked out and the team that were cheated against (us) were rightly reinstated.

I think being kicked out of the playoffs is sufficient punishment for the club.

Except Harwood-Bellis who should be imprisoned.

That's sufficient punishment for the Boro incident.

A 4 point deduction for the other 2 games feels relatively lenient - 3 points for each infraction seems more appropriate, plus lengthy bans for the individuals directly involved. It'd kill the practice stone dead.

It's contrarian bollocks to suggest Southampton are being hard done by here.

They cheated in a sporting competition and they have been booted out of that competition as a result.
And it's as simple as that.
👍

Seeing as the FULL TRUTH will never come out (imo), I'd demote them to at least league one.
They have obviously embarked on a 'crusade' to get promotion in any way possible.
Showing no respect whatsoever to fellow professionals or the competitive nature of sport whatsoever

Southampton's leadership have been disgraceful in the period between the initial decision and appeal.

If I was in their shoes I'd start sacking responsible parties right now, get ahead of anything that's coming. But instead they seem intent on trying to portray themselves as victims.

We were cheated so the team that cheated were rightfully kicked out and the team that were cheated against (us) were rightly reinstated.
The fact is that they tried to gain an advantage by circumventing/ignoring the rules of the competition.

They were caught and rightly removed from the competition.

It's completely irrelevant as to whether that translated to advantages on the pitch during the game. Burra could have won 3-0 and it wouldn't have changed that Southampton had cheated. And it's also irrelevant who the team was. It could've been ANY of the other play off contenders, it's still cheating.

The simple take away from it is if Southampton hadn't did what they did, they'd have been no complaint, no investigation, no charges and they'd be playing at Wembley on Sarrada.

As it stands if more complaints are made they could face further sanctions over the summer.

Definitely not, all the other clubs will be going through their training ground CCTV hard drives and looking for spies.

The authorities will open a big inquiry, southampton analysis staff will be brought in for interviews and may be offered immunity from bans if they tell the full extent of the spying. Ringleaders will be banned.

Southampton could yet be thrown out of the league, I think 1 point deducted for every game they spied upon should be the minimum. If they've done it for practically every game then they've ruined the entire season, particularly for the likes of Wrexham and Derby.

Lawsuits for lost earnings will rain down upon them too.

It keeps getting missed as people are only assosiating it with Championship football - but Arsenal have potentially missed out on a treble winning season due to it.

I wouldn't be surprised if after the Champions League final, Arsenal come for them. With Arsenal's standing in the game, their influence, and their lawyers etc. there could be massive repercussions coming from their way.
