Southampton spying compendium thread

Interesting this. Leeds were given a £200k fine in 2019 after spying on the opposition all season. New rules came in and this is now blatant cheating with no room for excuses. It’s a huge advantage knowing the opponents team, set up, tactics, set pieces days before the game. And this is a huge game financially. Southampton beat boro and this is ending up in court.

All blow over, as it should.

Southampton will win second leg, win the final then get knocked back to champo, fined etc and beaten finalists Hull/Millwall will go into premier.
Thats fair
Quite possibly what will happen but that's not fair to Boro. I don't see how Southampton can be kicked out now as it's not been investigated yet. There may be nothing in it. So it has to be done once all the evidence is in, both parties state their case, other clubs pitch in, etc. From what's out there so far it looks like blatant cheating from Southampton giving them a significant advantage in the play off semi final to put them through to the world's most valuable single game.

Best all round if Boro win tonight and it blows over with a fine for Southampton.

Southampton win and then regardless of whether they beat Hull this is a mess. Even if Saints lose to Hull, Boro still have a case.

Tricky one.

If Southampton are gonna be disqualified, then it needs to be done after (if) they beat us..
It's not fair on us (as the club allegedly cheated against) to be knocked out unfairly, whilst a team that hasn't been cheated against gets a free pass into the premier league.

Unfortunately the football authorities have a poor record of effectively punishing wrong doing with a slap on the wrist or ignoring it and hoping the problem goes away, unless it happens to be a club they view as irrelevant. West Ham Tevez affair for one and of course the ongoing saga with Manchester City - I am sure those with a better memory than me can find other examples (Jimmy Hill anybody?).

Agree with this.
If it turns out that they (Southampton) are in any way behind all this then it's not very likely that this is the first instance of it this season.
Steve Gibson 'fights' for what he believes is right and he's in a position (financially) to take things like this on.
Folk moan about what he supposedly 'did to Derby' but he only fought for what he believed was right (pretty sure it got settled out of court in the end too)
The fact they done this on his land will have extra pissed him off, rightly.
That would make no sense, if Boro are the ones compromised by this. THEY should have some recompense, not whoever Soton might play in the final. It's a very different situation to the Swindon one all those years ago.
Who did we turn over in the semi again back then?

Hull would claim they were beaten finalist and deserve the right to go up.
Doubt the EFL or Prem would allow the beaten semi finalist.
We went up as beaten finalists when Swindon were disqualified and not the team they played in the semis.
EFL would need to act now for it to go in buwas favour, which is unfortunate.

Southampton's lone wolf defence is pathetic and laughable. I would imagine the days before a play off semi final this analyst / spy would have been required at Southampton's training ground, not disappearing for a couple of days.

I think EFL will be hoping Boro win. This will save the embarrassing decision to believe that an analyst decided to travel to the other end of the country with all his equipment in the days before a semi final and was out of contact with the club.

But southampton didn't benefit from the game it was 0-0 buwa squandered many chances and could have easily romped it.
So southampton didn't really gain any seen advantage by supposedly knowing buwas line up.

Might be some interesting refereeing decisions tonight!
