South Shields FC 25/26 Thread

For most of the first half, Fylde totally outclassed Shields. Nunbers 10 and 11 down the left side caused constant problems. Their passing, movement and first touch overwhelmed Shields. But it's a funny old game. Shields suddenly forced a couple of good saves from Flyde's keeper. Despite that, the turnaround at the beginning of the second half was unexpected to say the least. Shields got stuck in, took their two goals well and even after Flyde pulled one back near the end , it was Shields, who should have been aiming to kill time, who looked the more likely to score again.
What a great result and cracking game.
I had forgot all about the game at Leeds ; the result there topped off a great evening. SouthShields in the National League and Hebburn in the National League North next season ? That would be something - considering both clubs almost folded a few years ago.

I was there today and it was a really good performance by Shields. They play good football and number 9, in particular, is a good player. Two players were of interest from a Sunderland point of view. Ethan Robson played the Xhaka role and at times kept the game moving and showed his experience. However, he was caught on the ball in dangerous situations probably three times and Shields were lucky not to be punished. If he played at the top of his game he could stand out but he just is nowhere consistent enough. Just not good enough in reality. On the other hand Oli Bainbridge was excellent. Strong in defence and showed realy quality going forward. He got an assist. He may not be at our level but he looked like a player who could have a good career at a decent level.

Two old lads next to me were slating Robson for your exact comments about him losing the ball especially in the first half.

Yes Robson lost the ball too often but also made some good plays - just needs more care - to be fair other players gave the ball away several times, even Jenks and Mann. I thought we had a 20-minute spell of really dreadful play in the second half, , looked like the lads had been given sleeping pills in their OJ. Rest of the game they played well but not at their best. Agree Oli is a superb player and links up well with Sean McGurk on the left, Sonny FInch also excellent. Would love to think we could persuade both to sign on permanent deals.

How is McGurk playing?
Was surprised to see him drop that far down the pyramid because there is definitely a player in there if he can be bothered.
