SoL To Undergo Multi-Million-Pound Investment Programme

Surely since Quinny was here the technology has moved on and could be replaced with ones more efficient. No idea how much to run modern search lights for an hour or two after the match but can't be that much in the grand scheme or is it ?
To be fair the landfill on tha hill is fully lit up most mornings but i suppose they are the richest clerb in the werld

and it waa the fans group that paid to put those boards in.

I still call it the South Stand.
I'm all for giving the stands names, but that isn't really the Roker End
The South Stand should have been named after Raich Carter, the only Sunderland Captain to lift both the League & FA Cup. He's a Hendon lad as well.
Roker End by arse, that went with Roker Park. We should bin the name as its a legacy of Madrox anyhow.

You need to factor in how much demand has changed in 20 year. Poster after poster neglect to do this.

We got better crowds in league one recently than we did under mic mac champ teams and Keane.

The sol isn’t big enough for a premier league SAFC.

“What happens if we go down” - luckily the current ownership don’t think like that. And as fans we shouldn’t.
Yeah but the reality is it could happen, or we could become perpetual strugglers again. Hopefully we don’t and I more than most have full faith in these owners and always have. Nobody is saying we shouldn’t look to do it, we’re just saying don’t rush too soon into it. Let’s just enjoy what’s happening and focus our efforts and resources into becoming a solid, formidable and ambitious top flight club so an extension can be fully justified. God forbid the former did happen, it would leave a real shit existence in the ground for the 40k-44k of us who’d stick around in a 55k ground.

I appreciate this side of the argument has been done to death but the reality is there is no such thing in the modern Pl as establishing yourselves and being safe to do an extension.

As Leicester showed previously and Forrest are this year, 1 year you are fighting for top 4 next year you can go down.

Waiting 2 years will make no difference at all to this.

I’m not convinced that any extension of the sol is desperately needed. I’ve been going to home games at either Roker or the sol since the mid 70’s. Crowd attendances obviously fluctuate according to the performance of the team.

During my lifetime the club has almost spent as much time outside the top flight as they have in it and throughout this period it’s only been when the side has been flying has any stadiums capacity been questioned.

I’ve heard plenty of people saying enjoy things at the moment because it’s not always like this and although others say this is a negative attitude it’s an accurate description of the clubs history since the early 60’s.

It would be absolutely amazing if we’re looking at a return to the days where we challenged for league titles but I’d be waiting for more evidence of that before committing to a ground extension.

So we have to be challenging for the league before we can extend? What!

It’s been repeated and repeated but demand for Premier League football is off the chart when compared with even the last time we were here.

The past isn’t that relevant anymore and we need to keep up with the other more established clubs. As the years go by our ground is becoming smaller and more basic when compared to other similar sized clubs in the league.

For me it’s not a question about if we extend but when, and whether it’s 2 phase and doing both ends.

Birmingham are going to 60k, West Ham went to 60k from 35.

The Pl is a different beat nowadays, and I don’t see it changing.

The risk for us extending isn’t as bad as other clubs, the reality is liek we have showed, it’s very easy to just no open concourse sections in a worst case scenario.

Not much of a pressing issue at the mo, The crowds come when the team is successful. To pack out a 60K stadium we need to ensure we are always in the top flight, We are doing amazingly well in our first season back in 8 or 9 years but lets get this season boxed off, stay up and build on the field and that will naturally ensure progress needed off it.

What do you mean by lit up? I sometimes pass and it looks like the floodies are on, but thats about it

If KLD knows what the long term plan is and he knows himself he's here for the long haul then why not go for it?

What’s to say there’s any plans any time soon to do an extension? All I’ve saw is speculation or people on here wanting it to happen. I personally still think it would be madness to go ahead and do anytime soon. Need to give it a few years imo to see if the sustained demand is still there. In answer to the question though, yes, adding a few small ish letters in the grand scheme of the entire East Stand roof I doubt would impact any extension.
What do they say, " if you're standing still you're going backwards". It needs to be done asap

Expansion also means we can make more money from live concerts. Making us more sustainable without the need for out side investment.
Does it though? If we are talking about the South Stand then it won't have much impact as that is usually the end with the stage in front of it. Yes it could switch to being at the North end but you then only gain whatever extra seating and corporate you can build into the new extension compared to the previous one. Can't be a huge difference there surely?

Aye optical illusion somehow making roof edge look slanted as I said in other thread 😵‍💫

Thought it was AI at first 😄
Looks class.

I've suggested this elsewhere, but I really think we should add some red LED lights within the ground, specifically pointed to the underside of the roof and to the top of entrance ways. This is used to good effect in other stadiums around europe.

See the underside of the roof at Monchengladbach's stadium as an example of what I mean:

I've suggested it to @Becs in the past, but unsure if things like this are raised in the fan meetings.

By who, tourists? Can’t tell me local Sunderland fans have any more of a clamour for it these days than 10 years ago? Find it a bit depressing if there is a desperate clamour to extend so we can pad crowds out with Premier League tourists. I know it would be ‘progression’ and keeping up with other teams such as your West Ham’s (it’s gone well for them…) but it’s depressing all the same.

Nobody is suggesting we stand still, they’re just saying let’s not jump the gun. At the moment we’ve been doing anything but standing still. By this logic every PL team should be looking to expand because grounds are full. I would be fully behind it if the newer comers that have taken our crowds from 40k+ to 46-47k are still turning up every week after a couple of years.
