SOL expansion

By this time next year, I reckon we will have a better idea about the long term ambition/commitment. This summers window will tell us a large amount and if anything else comes out about selling shares etc.

Another good season and regular sell outs will probably push them to commit or just keep kicking can down the road.
I don't think selling shares would necessarily mean they aren't ambitious, TBF.

I would be surprised if the ownership group remained unchanged by this time next year. Time will tell.

I didn't mean it would btw. Just mean whether they were looking to sell some shares for investment or whether they wanted out completely.

They won't be interested in expanding it the way it was designed to be. They've already said any expansion would be to maximise the premium ticketing. I'm sure Burwell mentioned 30/40% of the expansion being premium to make ot worthwhile.

They aren't just going to hoy normal seats on top like the north stand.

The lions share of the costs are structural. Structurally its easier than upgrading Villa Park. Cosmetic stuff like premium offers dont add that much extra to the cost relatively speaking

Creating multiple areas for events/corporate/lounges plus seats will cost far more than just hoying a few thousand seats up on an incline.

Kitting out a few bars & boxes wont cost anywhere near an additional £150m. Hoying a few thousand seats up involves all the steal & brick work (thats the expensive bit)

I'm not talking about the £250m figure, I agree thats totally nonsense. Just saying it will cost alot more than juat mirroring the north stand.

You don't know that as you haven't heard any of the plans or ideas
Exactly. Everything is conjecture and hypothetical when no designs or costing have even begun. As a result the 250 million comment is likely a figure plucked out of thin air. It’s possible their perceived date could be 5 years down the line in which case inflation resulting in higher costs comes into play.

The stadium was designed to make expansion easy. Itll be an easier job
Aye it was but these days things have changed and the actual layout/design etc will be different and not just a bog standard extension like was originally envisioned to be. Note that that it actually says "potentially cost" not "will cost" which is a difference for starters.

TB confirmed stadium expansion is a constant topic of discussion internally. The club will continue to
explore options and aims to maximise the opportunity for as many fans as possible to attend, generating
revenue for the club. It may potentially cost the club £250 million for expansion. The council continues to
be supportive of the club’s ambitions.

Nobody knows what it will be as it's still a very vague statement, but it won't be the bog standard corrugated metal sheets around it that's for sure. No doubt it will be up to date facilities and possibly also include upgrading the full ground to bring it all up to date and spruce the place up so it all lasts a good few years without any more significant investment. Only time will tell and no doubt if and when it's announced there will be fans happy about it and other who won't 😉

On a side note, who owns the bit of green between the SOL main car park & The Stables? It isn't part of the Sheepfolds development but it's probably council owned. It would be canny if the club can do something with it along the lines of a fan zone but very doubtful I suppose but then again money talks.

I doubt anyone will be unhappy about it if its announced tbh, people just have reservations about the timing from what i've read

That bit of land is in The Riverside Masterplan down to house some educational buildings but is not included in the Sheepfolds development plans/application.

Thanks as I looked for the previous land plans but couldn't find them but found it now. I see it's 2030+ that it will be done also and there's a better image of the whole lot on page 84

I’d love to know what plans and designs they have that’d cost them £250m!

It’s costing Villa less than half of that to effectively rebuild an entire stand and fit it out with trickier infrastructure modifications required.
Didn't SBM say that the SoL had been designed and built in such a way that extending any of the stands - E, N and S, would not be a big deal ?
Can't recall the cost of the N stand but it wasn't huge, and it was completed in what seemed like a short space of time.
