SOL expansion

They may as well have said a billion, just in case it doesn't happen until 2067 then.

They made it up. It's about as truthful as them saying nobody has talked about selling any shares. They definitely seem competent and have done a great job, but we're not getting the full story at the moment imo.
Are you suggesting the club is just mentioning expansion in some vague way to pacify the fanbase and have no intention of expanding the ground? One thing is foe sure they never tell us owt till they have to.

Villa park & elland road extensions are projected to cost 100-150 mill respectively. Most jobs run over and over budget it seems these days. If our proposed extension is designed with corporate at the forefront it would cost substantially more in fairness. If it’s designed for just extending the terraces that’s a different matter.

I think Villa and Leeds are adding extensive corporate in their rebuilds too.

Seems a bit mental that ours would cost about twice as much considering the way the ground is built for easy expansion.

If I was to put my conspiracy hat on…. They give the supporters a big number that seems undeliverable which rolls the ground for a takeover for controversial new owners who can financially deliver it…

Currently as in 2024/25 from 40,000 fans in the Championship but prices went up again 2025/26 and the average increased by over 6,000 so we'll probably break £20m this last season. Prices have gone up again for 2026/27 and I think we'll be well over £25m this next season, possibly breaking £25m given the European games.

IMO, the £250m won't just be building the 2 stands, it's possibly a whole stadium revamp to look at ways to increase the revenue all around the ground.

You reckon KLD won't be here in 2 years? Of course he will as he's young and he clearly has visions for the club. If an extension is built, or even proposed then it will also add value to the club when it comes to selling so it's not £250m thrown down the drain. If we stay top half and have decent season selling out and hit high 50k crowds bringing in high match day revenue of more than £40m then that will add even more value to the club.

Having the bigger stadium will allow those who are more affluent access to the prawn sandwiches. At the minute there's limited 'prawn' sandwich seats so they're being milked but there's still fans willing to pay good money for it. There will also be plenty of fans willing to pay more than they do now with better access to bars/food/seats that would be a middle ground like the founders.

With the extension, it means that more of the ground can cater for the richer fans and the rest of the stadium can have fair priced tickets. If not then like many other clubs, tickets prices all around will go up and concession areas will be reduced in way to drive up revenue. It's already happened in the last 3 seasons at the SOL and will happen again next season and every season after if demand stays the same.

Surely there's more than concerts that could be accommodated at a 60k SOL that would add extra into the coffers?

There's loads of sections just the odd singles (blue) dotted about. Aye there's a few sections with rows of seats (just been released?) but overall it's just singles (blue) about along with the resales (pink but money already in). I can't be arsed to count but it's less than 1,000 seats left , if not in the 100s? No doubt many of those groups of seats will sell over the next few days.

But areas like founders are not selling out now so why would they if we built more of them?

It's fact that a decent proportion of their customers are probably finding it difficult to get tickets at the moment so might want the club to pop a little extension on like they did in 2000ish.

I'm suggesting the club may have zero interest in that as they're more interested in testing how high they can push match day income up and testing whether demand remains as high once they hit a level they're comfortable at.

If that's true, then it would probably be easier to just say it'll cost an astronomical amount instead of telling the truth

It's hardly a conspiracy theory. It's just common sense.

I thought the figures came from the club stating(rather nebulous statement with no detail from fans meeting ) "expansion could end up costing 250Milion"....adding 12000 is seats and all the sundries is not just about extra ticket revenue but more revenue from food, corporate ,and sundry sales, more people in the ground the more attracting more young supporters and on and on...

Im sure KLD could source a very good loan through his family connections with a 20 to 30 year payback and the resulting stadium would be a far greater revenue stream for the club over the long term.....one thing is for sure they will only do it if it makes financial sense and im not in a position to judge but lots of our competitor clubs are doing it and you have to ask why? and I hope we are willing to compete!
He's either got me on ignore or just ignoring my posts as I mentioned it's not just extra ticket revenue, there's other money that will be made from the investment.

I mean why are the mags even looking at adding summit like 10,000 extra seats even though it would cost them £600m or whatever it is? That £250m figure could well be the top price getting everything done/upgraded all around the ground along with top notch East stand and South stand facilities to bring the stadium up to date and not just a simple, roof off, hoy in the extra seats, roof back on job ala North Stand extension.

I mean why are the mags bothering looking at spending £600m or whatever it was just to increase the shit tip by 10,000 or whatever it was?

I'll be ignoring his comments now as it's clear he's clueless as to what it will cost and what it can add in value anyway. It seems that he's focusing just on the extra ticket sales and thank fuck he's not the one in charge of looking towards the future or else it would never be expanded and ticket prices would just keep being raised instead.

But areas like founders are not selling out now so why would they if we built more of them?
Because it's shite given the walk to the bar and to the seats but it still sells doesn't it? A stadium revamp would mean the areas for corporate and premium would probably be revised again making it much more attractive for fans willing to pay that extra.

The basic plans for the south stand are on tinternet adding 5300 seats and increasing the space for corporate below....its basically a mechano set extension creating a seat platform and voids below to manufacture rooms /concourse below....and a brick or steel/glass facade as the exterior wall(not load baring) .As a building project its simple and relatively cheap to do compared to leeds and forrests plans..The east stand plans are nowhere to be seen and i think the up 250 million figure represents a quality east stand extension far greater than the west stand.

Think Tom Burwell is being selective with the truth about costs, unless of course the envisaged design is high end, or the dates to extend are 4 or 5 years from now, who knows. I do believe outside finance will come on board though, as revenue growth in the near future will be needed to sustain our projected intentions.

If they're talking about some pie in the sky development like Leicester's proposed extension, then you'd probably be talking in that ballpark when coupled with a standard South Stand extension.

Someone should ask the question about whether they'd be willing to drop a fraction of that adding more seats to the South Stand and some extra boxes/corporate spaces.

I think Leicester were talking about that sort of money with an arena, hotel, some huge area and loads of corporate stuff.

Similar stadium design too. It's pie in the sky stuff though.

Its clear to me that plans have been discussed as bob M has seen them and im sure its being considered and personally i think it will depend on kld's plans to stick around and his ambition. In truth our ground is top notch to watch footy but our ancillary facilities at the SOL second rate and the only way to make room to improve them is by expansion and it would be ideotic to expand for corporate alone!

They have already dropped over 2000 seats for the new south stand plans and adding extra corporate and increasing the concourse area.Posh corporate wants to be at the half way line and that will be catered for by the east stand extension.I suppose its a wait and see scenario but the one thing is for sure im still not convinced that KLD wont sell in the near future for a vast profit before huge investment has to be made in the infrastructure.Thee is clearly a glass ceiling to increasing ticket prices due to the economic nature of the area so if they want to increase revenue expansion is the only sensible route but im not sure KLD is the man to do it!

Absolutely if it costs £250m as it'll be years before they see any return on investment. Let's say it makes us so extra £10m per season, that's 25 years to break even and that's ignoring it's not free to run hospitality and also there's interest.

As I thought, has me on ignore (or just skipping my posts) if thinking that it's just the increase on match day tickets that a £250m investment will return and it would take 25 years to repay it 🤣

Our revenue will be approx 240m next season.

Running costs are approx 120m

Our SCR is approx 50% giving us plenty of wiggle room for Europe.

Non football costs don't go towards SCR.

Assuming we are a stable mid table premier league team over the next 5 years we could easily finance £250m of stadium upgrade.

Estimated match day revenue could go from 25m to 50m+

Historically football clubs have a "build it and they will come" effect of growing clubs. Bigger and better stadium equals more success
