SOL expansion

I always assumed an extension to the East and South would pretty much mirror the West and North with some tweaks here and there.

But if estimated costs are pushing £250 million it suggests they have bigger plans than what I first thought.

Maybe it includes full stadium redevelopment with retractable roof. Who knows how big these owners are aiming.

Exciting times.
I've said it earlier in the thread, but it'd be mint if they extended the whole lot, and completely redid the roof. Have it sloping "up" towards the front, rather than "down" like the North and West stands are now. It would make the whole thing look massive.

It’s not gonna be about numbers it’s gonna be about “quality experiences for high paying one off visitors”

Agreed. And I’ve touched on this with other posts.

In simple terms. There is more space/area/potential by expanding the east stand before the south.

If the demand is there for that the east should be done first.

Theres absolutely zero chance of them ever building an extension anywhere near a £250m cost.

I'm more convinced than ever that they won't build anything tbh.
Why's that then? That's not huge these days for infrastructure projects. If they make 15% of seats premium (which our CEO says is what he would want to compare with Everton & Spurs etc) and they build big concourses with bars and restaurants, then the increased revenue would be enough to service the 250m loan.

Just listening to our CEO talk about the need to increase revenue and his focus on premium tickets I am more convinced than ever we will be extending.

All this talk of corporate

We will never sell out corporate for 15 out of 19 PL fixtures

They will be premium priced tickets most of the time, better seats, a free program etc

Concerts and the other 4 fixtures, a different story

They aren't going to pour millions into something because it 'looks mint'. Think people needs a reality check as to what's likely to happen and in what time frame

I just don't see it happening.

The boxes are selling and allegedly a full waiting list ready to selling the same amount we have again.

The rest of the corporate offerings aren't selling out at all. You're correct

I’d it’s extending out the concourses and providing a lot of space in the ground for lounges and break out areas and the like it will cost a lot. It won’t be like Wembley but consider that as an example where you enter and enter is lots of space to drink/eat inside with seating. With that people will spend a lot more money in the ground and turn up earlier, the scrum like concourses in existing grounds are not longer fit for commercial purpose.
I've been to every this game this season and not bought anything or used the concourses once. When I was younger, didn't bother me so much but just can't be doing with it these days, it's just an horrendous squash of people.

They could widen the concourses by 4 metres by bringing the walls out so they are level with the back of the stand. That would cost nowhere near the figures mentioned and would improve the ground massively.

We won’t build more boxes. The future is large social spaces and comfy seats, not boxes for 20

Oh well, might as well spend the money on something that looks shit then eh? Keep our feet firmly on the ground while we're on. None of that "ambition" malarkey for us. Paper weights all round!

Something similar to Everton have I would expect. They have Village Street which is a lounge that I think runs the length of the stand, divided into bars and food outlets. Something similar in the East Stand would probably be the best use of the space, then they could reconfigure the West Stand hospitality for higher end stuff.

Not suggesting that at all. There's nothing wrong with the roof and replacing it isn't going to reap dividends for the owners

I agree!

There's lots wrong with the roof to be fair. The sheets are rusty as f*ck in the west stand, above the premier concourse. The rust is on the underside, and follows the zig-zag pattern of the structure above it on the outside. I'd say that's not a good sign. The clear panels at the front of the west stand roof, which are intended to let light through, have lost their transparency, creating that massive shadow on the pitch when it's sunny. Fair enough, they could replace the sheets/transparent panels, but why not create something architecturally and aesthetically "mint" while they're on?

The club gaffers seem to think they can sell more premium tickets. I sit in premium and there have been few empty seats all season, but don't forget even if they don't sell them all, premium seats still account for around 45% of matchday revenue despite making up just 6% of total seats. Demand is only going to rise this coming season now we're in Europe.

They will keep improving and tweaking the offerings to attract more people. The CEO was saying in today's society people's spending habits have changed to prioritise exclusivity and luxury, even working class people.

I think it's more likely we lose some seating for extra corporate.
You're going to be in for a surprise then.
You think they're going to spend £250m on The Stadium of Light? What makes you think that? It sounds like you're in the know?
