We need to remember we don't have the cash reserves of some other clubs (we took out a loan to effectively get our EPL money in the bank early since the club/owner didn't have it lying around as spare change). If we did have the funds it would be a no-brainer since it would only help our SCR in the long run and the club aren't going to worry about empty seats (if they would even be an issue).
Perhaps I'm overestimating the cost of the extension (anyone have any idea? I'm assuming hundreds of millions...) or the depths of wealth KLD has but my feeling is that we won't see it until we get extra cash surplus from somewhere.

The Leeds extension is costing 150 million and not had that many more seasons in the premier League then us

You should listen to the Tom Burwell interview he definitely wants to increase the capacity mainly for the extra profit corperate gives

Forest and Leeds about to go over 50k and both in more perilous positions than we are.
Its an interesting balance to strike because them clubs will charge more and have more hospitality now. If we are serious about becoming a proper PL club, we do need to increase revenues and get more fans putting more money into the club aswell.

SOL cost was £15M to £20M IIRC
North stand extension and associated development was around £7M, also IIRC.
As a finger in the air I'd estimate any Roker End extension at today's costs - including consourse and premium area - around £40M to 50M mark.
As there is no published scope this should be taken as a very rough estimate.

Yeah i agree. I think the first thing the club should be doing is ensuring there's no wasted seats for each game and get a far more efficient ticket exchange platform. For the bulk of games there plenty visible seats.
I get the desire to extend to increase corporate provision but worry about the impact on crowds if stadium too big. People would stop buying season tickets as not needed and crowds would then start to dip. We've seen this happen before. Plus we're still in a honeymoon period.
I know its not the popular view but personally think it would be a mistake to commit to extend now.

In 2 more seasons without expansion, we'd be even closer to the likes of Leeds kind of prices and concessions which for the younger generation is quite expensive. It may well be that the club keep increasing prices and even though it may price 1,000s off, there are 1,000s more glory seekers willing to pay top dollar for games.
Basically forget the legacy fans, it's all about who is willing to pay the most now. That's what happens at many clubs and the signs are certainly there that the current people in charge are happy to follow that path as demand is high that the legacy fans are expendable.
The other thing is, we could expand in 29/30 and be relegated that same season. Look at Spurs, they've got a £billion stadium but they're probably getting relegated. We ideally need an expansion sooner rather than later to stop all this milking and penny pinching going on by the club.
We could be up for a few seasons and relegated and come back up again but each time the prices will be pushed higher in the PL trying to keep up. Why is it that other clubs are just going ahead with expansions even though they can just as easily go down 1 season if they have a shit 1 (Forest being 1 and maybe even Leeds next season?).

I could see why Leeds would want to increase both standard capacity and corporate hospitality. Leeds has a massive catchment area (one million plus) and is also a major financial/industrial region. Im sure they’d comfortably fill it.
Not so sure about Nottingham. The city is a similar size to Sunderland, but I expect it has a larger middle-class support who might be prepared to pay corporate prices.
Yes there might be a waiting list for executive boxes just now, but I think the current demand will evaporate if we don’t stay in the top-flight. The city needs further regeneration and to be able to attract better paid jobs.

Forest arent. Theyre planning to go to about 40k then with plans for 50k as a maybe years down the line if things work out
