SOL expansion

Yes really, we have had a ceiling of around 48,000 for years.

We can’t beat it.

It’s all well and good for posters on here to bang on about extending the ground but this type of work costs millions.

Most of you tight wads won’t even stump up 20 quid to become a contributor of the SMB.

But you want the owner to stump up millions to build an extension we won’t fill.

It does not make economic sense.
How confident are you in your proposition that the sol wont be extended?Im 95% sure it will!

The red and white thing looks a bit out of place with the rest of the ground, not complaining.. get it built..

6k extra seats would be nice this year but it cant happen at the click of a finger. Once weve established our selves in the prem then itll happen. If we place well this season i can see him wanting to get the ball rolling asap to be honest.

I was told last year the council are in for a shock about their plans and KLD wanted to create something similar to Wembley way.
Hes practically there looking at the photos of the new bridge etc... will actually look better than wembley way now as its over built down there and looks crap now.

I get the desire to increase commercial revenue through an extension, but the extra seats do still concern me a lot about how soulless it could end up being inside the ground if we don’t kick on or end up yo-yo’ing between the leagues (or worse), as the crowds will likely revert to 40k. To me the extra capacity just isn’t needed at this moment in time. Cup games don’t bear thinking about. I admit to not knowing much about this entire process though so it could all just be ‘in theory for a future point’ at this stage.

There are plans mate but it’s all dependent on PL money. If we get relegated then everything basically stops.

I might be in a minority but I have a lot of sympathy towards the council. Finally, after years of stagnation, things are moving and now the club have created an issue which could have easily been sorted behind the scenes.

Sadly it has created an open goal for those thick Reform twats :-(

The council are doing great things, however digging deeper into the official objection (and some people thinking Sir Bob is just piping up now that the hybrid application has gone in)..correspondence evidence shows that he raised his concerns well over a year ago about the guarantee of the buffer zone (commercial use only) and Melia has just been telling him what he wants to hear then ignoring him - doesn't look good on the council side at all...I can see why they have went public

Imo mate, Murray probably broke rank a bit when he shouldn’t have. The club have a very good relationship with the council and the matter would have been addressed before planning was granted.

At the end of the day, we are talking about two buildings on a huge regeneration site. Plans for these sort of big developments always change and a compromise would have been found.

I also still believe that the club are pretty keen to see that at least one of the two contentious buildings outside the south stand is set aside for commercial/retail use as they would be keen to lease it.

The sad thing is, if Reform does take the City next May, much of the planned good work will come to an immediate stop. They will be an utter disaster and could easily knock the city back ten years.

Although Bob may have thought he was acting in the clubs best interests, he inadvertently has put an element on our fanbase against a council that is trying to regenerate a City.

I don’t know, maybe I am an old git, but do people want to live in between the stadium and Sheepfolds?

The city probably lacking decent accommodation but like most things in this country we build them in the wrong place
Was meaning hotel accommodation, anything decent sells out quickly whenever there’s an event on so we still lose out to people staying outside the city

I think the development will prove extremely popular mate. It will mostly be high end housing with excellent transport links; a direct route into town via the bridge; easy access to the riverside; the likes of the Sheepfolds for food and drink.

I would say also he broke rank but as said, digging deeper documents say he has been leant on from the club for all matters regarding the stadium, commercial opportunity, concerts over the years as well as the sheepfolds regeneration. Ive highlighted the line above as its noted in the objection that he wanted guarantees that them said units would be confirmed as retail/commercial units acting as a buffer zone..the masterplan shows they were, Bob was told they were then when the hybrid planning come out they are at ground level only with 7 storeys of apartment block above...showing they have went against the clubs wishes

It's a pretty good location. 5 minutes over the bridge into town, right next to the sheepfolds stables for food and drink and handy for the match. Metro right next to it too.

I thought Bruce’s comments at the recent RAWA meeting were interesting - particularly about “creating our own Wembley way”
This makes a lot of sense now. In the included plans there was an Wembley way pedestrian bridge included and I was clueless what it was. If built you'd basically have a straight line direct from the corner of the stadium to across the new bridge.

Which plans?
