SOL expansion

Nowt wrong with dreaming.....Villa were in championship not too far back.

True. They've had an ambitious board though since then who I'm sure when taking over stated that they wanted Villa to challenge at the top. They've also been far more successful in the last few decades than us, consistent Premier League football, a League Cup win in the 90s, a European Cup in 82 etc.

They did luck out with Emery though. They won't be CL this season.

Extending the stadium wouldn’t be a bad idea if we simply dropped prices and set an example to the other EFL and premier league clubs. We could fill that stadium if we capped season tickets at £150 I reckon.

Obviously for that to happen we would need to get promoted and stay there first
Sadly the problem with lower prices is that it has been shown that people are more likely to show up if they have paid a reasonable premium.
It’s been documented on here that many don’t support the club anymore, but have just paid their money so they can do what they like. That seems to be the consensus of post covid warriors.
So there will be a lot more not turning up if the price was only £10 or £15 per game.

It would make absolutely no sense from a business point of view though.

£150 x 60,000 = £9m
£400 x 25,000 = £10m

Just saying and that's setting the bar low for now.

Yeah it’s one of them situations. You are right. The only way is just to play some good football to drive people back in the ground imo. Easier said than done of course and we were playing some good football at the start of the season and if it stayed like that people would be more inclined to come rather than just say they can’t be arsed. for me i could pay £1 or the £400 and id still turn up to every game because im that way inclined.

I'll correct your poor grammar since you're trying to be smart.

Here’s a corrected version of your sentence:

"Dear me, did the bloke handing out the brain's ability to comprehend abstract concepts not visit your maternity ward?"
Conformity is a sign of the weak of will!

£150 x 60,000 = £9m
£400 x 25,000 = £10m

Not to mention the £100m+ it would cost to put all these extra seats in, in the first place!

Alternatively, the more expensive the ticket, it may increase the effort to get to the match instead of wasting ‘x’ amount.

Aye to be fair if the stadium had less seats we'd probably make more money as if someone didn't turn up you could just cancel their ticket and get someone else in like Brentford etc do.

Obviously cancelling the ticket now would be bonkers as it's just another empty seat.

Of course I'm not suggesting actually downsizing the stadium though but just economics.

Would we though? the SOL wasn't packed out every week in the PL.

Definitely.

If we are averaging 40,000 this season then you can add a few thousand home supporters to that in the PL.

Plus we would need to sort out the away end because most PL teams would be capable of bringing bigger numbers. So rather than some games having a few hundred away fans we would be looking at 3,000 standard.

I'm not sure what the situation is with hospitality but if there is a serious need to increase I would rather they looked at raising the roof on the East Stand and adding a row of boxes. Anything but removing regular seats.

40,000 sales is different to people being in the ground and I think we’re below 40,000 anyway. During the PL days we still had places in the ground that regularly weren’t filled. I think we could lose 3k off capacity and every home fan who wanted a ticket would still get one.

Interesting debate on all this, lots of different views.

Does anyone know what type of work within the ground would not require planning permission? Like if we didn’t increase the footprint or height etc.
I would imagine there will be reams of safety certification and hoops to jump through too, in any case.
I hope the wheels are in motion tho 👍🏼

Awful idea imo.

If we were to win promotion we would need those extra seats.

Increase hospitality by all means but not at the expense of losing regular seats.
Hospitality will increase if we got promoted as all the suites currently mothballed will be opened back up and the seats in the directors box and the 2 blocks either side of them in the first 5 rows of PC will be used again. There is space on the 1st and second floors of the North West Extension that was the old Foundation of Light offices that could be developed and then the front blocks of the North West Upper (500 seats) could be turned into corporate seats. Best view in the Stadium up there. Also i would make P7, 8, 12 & 13 Corporate in PC. That would give us over 4,000 corporate seats inc BCB, more than enough for us.

If you aren't affecting the external appearance or changing the use of anything, it shouldn't require planning permission. Building Regs still needed though.

Creation of boxes are 'outside', but inside the stadium if you see what I mean, so in my view that wouldn't need consent.

If you were creating new openings/entrances etc. viewable from the street, that would need consent. The new ticket office needed them, for example.
