SOL expansion

Sky televising more games has an effect on games especially evening K O .

Our evening crowds have been well down compared to our weekend crowds for years now. Think they announced 35k odd last night but in reality it was nowhere near. Leeds had 36,500 and looking at their highlights that looked about right as it looked full.

Think we have a lot more older fans going to matches than Leeds do and for midweek games, especially in winter it's probably easier for the likes of them to miss games.

Compounded with poor to none existent evening public transport to the surrounding pit villages

What allocation did Boro have at Leeds last night any idea?

Our last couple of lower crowds have not been helped by small away support on top of everything else.

Capacity never 49000 at any point.... i suggested if it made financial sense they would do it and not until then..so if your right they never will!My argument is that if they are going to spend millions on improving the corporate facilities anyway hoying a few more seats in would make financial sense ( small % of overall build)as it would make the stadium more attractive to promoters... now may i ask if it made financial sense to the accountants and long term business plan to say add load of boxes and increase the capacity to 55,000 would you be against that just because we might not fill it ?What is your fear of empty seats?..i wouldn't worry anyway they will never spend in that sort of progressive way unless of course they use some of the promotion to the prem money!

Loads of if's there though, personally I can't see any accountant signing that off as I'm not sure there's the demand for all these boxes either.

The Black Cats Bar conversion is a sensible upgrade for now, once that's been done and if they all sold then maybe it's something you could talk about then.

In corporate terms the quality of our offerings is poor and that's not a cheap fix! They will end up spending millions on corporate that's for sure but i thing they will only tinker until we get back to the prem! do you fear empty seats?and why?

Stewards in the BCB are under the impression it will be refurbished/upgraded, and prices hiked much closer to Quinn's.

Surprised at that, thought it would've been a given, but then again can you have boxes under the away fans which could be a problem?
The boxes would sit under the overhang of the upper tier where the BCB seats are. The other consideration is where to relocate 750 people with good accessibility to a bar area. Frankly, a bar in the old shop and seats in the PC simply won't work

Yeah that's true.

I'm surprised they've never looked at moving out some of the office space which is next to Quinns etc and doing something to Premier Concourse from there, not sure how feasible it would be though. Agreed the club shop is no use though.

“Ground expansion” might not necessarily mean increased capacity.

Can’t get my head around hospitality areas being unused in the West Stand if there is a demand for the bar/seat type offering.

So 49,000 then? Since we've sold it out about 3 times in the past decade.

Building a larger stadium for 2 concerts a year is absolutely crazy talk. From any financial point of view, you'd be better losing the 2 concerts as it's never going to pay for it.
Do you know how much concerts make when done correctly?

I don't have a clue but if I'm correct they generally just get the money from food/drink sales and a cut of the merchandise aswell but assuming it cost £50m for the expansion of seats and you gain nothing else from it, assuming a 25 year pay off, you'd need to make £2m from the concerts to break even and that's ignoring the extras like more maintenance aswell.

What's the point in paying a fortune (that we don't have anyway) to make the stadium even bigger and even more soulless than it's been the last couple of games just to so we can make an extra few quid off concerts?

It's a football club first and foremost and that should always be top priority in any thought process, not hosting Ed Sheeran or Pink every once in a while.

I was shocked at last nights turn out and atmosphere Going for promotion young side playing canny football and it was like being at a funeral .

A ground extension would be barmy our support is dwindling not increasing . thousand have got out of the habit and are now supporting from afar
Having a season ticket and then choosing not to go because it’s a bit nippy/take 30 minutes more to get home/need to go to Aldi is bewildering mind.

Sky have turned it into a TV sport. Games like Saturday and last night more and more people happy to take the easy option and watch on TV. It's only going to get worse especially as fixtures are more and more being scheduled around the TV.

Makes the idea of an expansion sound even more ludicrous.
