SOL era home crowd...

In tonight's game i agree with you. But i would also say if we hadn't scored so soon after their second goal the atmosphere would have turned.
O'Nien stuck one in the back of the net, which could have been the winner had he not slightly been off side, maybe the crowd had an impact on that little passage of play.
You put two things together, one was about how good the crowd are when we are winning plenty of games, the other was how they can be one of the most negative when things don't go our way.
Your questions are rather ridiculous, no one mentioned singing.

We went behind due to individual errors. We got a goal back when the crowd wasn't overly vocal and then didn't go on to win the game when it was at its most vociferous.

Aye, seething here.

Is that what you were after all along?

Anything else you have an opinion on that you deem is correct without having any actual reference to? Please do share.

I have plenty of reference. Was a season ticket holder at the SoL from the day it opened until I moved away in 2010 and know it can be an absolute nightmare when things aren't going smoothly.

...is a massive factor in why we will never kick on.

It's been evident since the first home game where things didn't go out way. Norwich game in 1997, berating the team even though they were creating bucket loads of chances, because we weren't winning. A few weeks later Quinn was being stretchered off to a huge cheer. You're not allowed to mention these things now because they offend the ego of the "best support in the world" brigade.

We need to stick with the team through adversity, which seems to be beyond our home crowd. The pressure on the team first half was massive and palpable from 4,000 miles away. Groans, boos, sarcastic cheers. Unbelievable.

Results are disappointing, no question. The home crowd however have to take a look at themselves and their role in making the SOL a difficult place to play for the home team.

Tin hat off because it's true even though people will kick off. 20 years of getting on our own players backs is evidence enough, away team love coming here and have for years.
Aye fans fault.

Only last week I was reading how shit the atmosphere is and it's like a library, now I'm reading it's all booing and sarcastic cheers. I'm a bit confused cause I thought it was excellent second half last night.

The age old things aren't going very well so it must be the fans fault argument. The fans get on the players backs long after the football turns to shite, always have always will. It's absolutely no different at other clubs. We dropped to leagues while hardly mustering a 'fuck off man'. The stadium was like being in a morgue, now we are getting on their backs we are to blame for it all, what a list of f***ing bollocks. The real reason it's like this is because we aren't a big club any more and haven't been for around 60 or so years. It's got fuck all to do with the 29,000 that are turning up most weeks in the 3rd division

I always remember we lost at home to Wigan in the PL, Nzogbia scored their winning goal. Bruce was their manager. He made a point after the game to comment how edgy and nervous the crowd had been, implying Wigan had played on that.
McGeady mentioned this in his post-match interview

If you're in a relationship, and that person constantly cheats on you, when something goes wrong you think, here we go, they're doing it again. Because there's no trust.

For a long time now, we've watched Sunderland not work. We expect them not to work. Because there's no trust. (Which is completely understandable, yet I think, unfair on this group of players and the manager, who weren't part of the previous mistrust.)

Last night, like a lot of games this season, we've looked bright in the opening few minutes, but then it quickly fades and we expect the worst. The crowd becomes anxious, impatient, annoyed. And that pushes out onto the field, and the team picks up on it, and their anxiety grows.

As soon as we scored, the crowd responded, changed, and it pushed the team on.

I'm not "blaming" the crowd, but, in my opinion, it's a definite factor, among others. We're a tough crowd anyway, but given what's gone on the past few years, it's become tougher. Ironically, the only way to clear that out, would be to go on a big run, win the league, bring back some good feeling.

Give over. Crowd were completely passive under Moyes and last season yet we came bottom both times. That had nowt to do with crowd. Support has been fantastic last few years.

The atmosphere has been flat this year & we are really struggling with a lack of originality in our chants. However, these games simply aren't big games, can't kid yourself otherwise. Nobody cares about a game with Accrington, Luton or Barnsley.

Last 2 games crowd have been edgy but that's on the back of sitting throughout 2 months of woeful passive performances with no real payoff
Support isn’t just turning up.

Support isn’t just turning up.

Not saying it is but certainly weren't on teams backs last year & this year till Tuesday.

We've been woeful in the majority of home games this year yet the support has been pretty decent without being great. Like I say a big problem atmosphere wise is that this games just simply aren't big games. There's no buzz, it's not like we're playing a Man Utd, Everton or even an Aston villa.

We won absolutely shit loads of home games under Keane - even in the PL. 1st season back up, our home wins were in double figures!
We were also immense at home for about 4 years under Reid, where the atmosphere was among the best I've ever heard anywhere.
That’s what the ops gannin on about.

Edgy nervous crowds aren’t a new thing - the Watford game in 99, 1st home game after being torn a new arsehole by Chelsea the week before on our return to the top flight was equally nervous & edgy...

You need a team big enough to deal with it, comes with experience...

We're great when it's going well. That's not in question....but most supporters are.
The balance of goodwill is empty, has been for years & years - you don’t for an advance or free pass just like that.

That first half was poor & deservedly the fans showed their frustration... does the 2nd half performance prove the fans correct as those players were capable of so much more...

Why fans make this excuse for the club and manager is beyond me?

They've peddled shite for years and the fans gobble it down. The club and team are not beyond criticism

I knew it.Nothing to do with the 11 on the pitch, its us fans who work for a fkn pittance and pay to follow and watch them all over the country who are at fault. Why dont you take that tin hat and shove it in your fat gob (where it will rattle).

When you mentioned Watford I thought you were gonna say the year before at the start of the season after we lost the play off final.

We won 4-1 but they scored first. We battered them in the first half and ended up going 3-1 up by the iirc but the fans got ridiculously impatient, there was booing, groaning and all sorts at 0-1.

One guy in the North Stand bellowed our “there’s time yet” on about the 20 minute mark to some applause.
