The championship is an exciting league and it nearly always ends up with a mix of clubs at the top, some who have really gone for it spending wise and some who have just had a great season.

Out of the big spenders (at the moment Villa and Boro), at least one of them with fail spectacularly.

The standard is shite though and when the ultimate goal of being in that league is to get back out of it and be Premier League whipping boys again it just has a bit of that Groundhog day feel about it.

It does make you think that the real target for any club should be to get back up without already having the premier league wage bill and the £100m+ debt otherwise you are going to be screwed again as soon as you get there.

One thing that Middlesbrough lacks and that Sunderland has in spades is the mistaken belief that you are a big club; but you are not. Nobody outside the North East even cares about you. Ok you have history. Your history is better than ours but in football terms it is ancient history and counts for nothing today. Since the last time you won anything in 1973, take a look at our two clubs year on year and you will find that over that period - some 44 years - we come out on top, and over the last couple of decades we have signed players that you could only dream of. The reason for that is that we are better run, and we are seen as a more attractive prospect; a bigger draw.
To be honest mate you wouldn't have a clue what fans of other clubs think of us, cos all the ones I talk to speak highly of us and our fans. Don't let your hatred of Sunderland blind you as to what fans of other clubs think of us.

Typical of the jealousy of Smogs and mags who have aspirations way above their capabilities. However we are loved by other fans because we are everything the mags purport to be. Quote 'Man City fan'. Of course the difference is we know we're crap and can take the piss out of ourselves. The mags and smogs by and large can't. They still live in a Bobby and Bryan Robson wonderland. So sad so funny.

What you call inflated wages is what everyone else regards as the going rate in today's market but you do know that it takes more than just money to attract good players

Yes you would love to believe that wouldn't you? It would make you second best club in the NE instead of your current standing. But really, apart from your ancient history, Sunderland have nothing that the Boro would envy. You are stranded between a city with true class and a football club that is regarded as big by any measure, and a small town club that makes bigger waves than you.
Nailed it.

We're big enough for you to care enough to try and latch on to us and to try and create a rivalry that we're largely uninterested in.
