Alwight lads.

A bit info since the last update but sadly RWE have pulled out of the league so won't be playing them in any games except friendlies this year. I won't be discussing why on a public forum so don't ask.

However, it looks likely that their place will be taken by Durham Uni teachers who would have been joining next season but feel that they might be able to slot straight in this year.

That is all.

Possibly 31st May. IF Durham Uni take RWEs place. If not, then yes the 7th June. If Durham Uni don't/can't play I will try and get a friendly organised. Even if it's against a concoction of Houghton players; just so everyone stays sharp and whatnot.

Just so you know what happened.

RWE had a friendly arranged for May 9 - I booked the pitch back in early April.

On May 8 I noticed that Houghton seemed to be touting for players for a game on the same date.

When I queried what was going on it appears that Houghton 2nds arranged a cup tie without booking a pitch.

I get a call from the council saying that RWE could no longer have the pitch, the next day, as Houghton wanted it. So I then have to cancel the RWE game and let everyone down.

The initial agreement was that Houghton would have priority which I was happy to go along with, but it would also seem reasonable to book it in advance, not just demand it at 24 hours notice.

So, that coupled with the facts I was struggling to get players to commit to playing on a regular basis, me having to fork out 200 quid upfront for insurance when you have a 'home' ground, plus the 'other' issues surrounding playing at Leyburn Grove (no groundsman to open/close etc) made us choose to play only friendlies rather than commit to the Vic Halom League with 10 games that we must fulfil.

It's a pity but when you are the only person sorting out the fixtures, arranging teams, transport, captaining etc, etc - it just gets to the stage where you say I can't be bothered with any more hassle.

That's about it I think - hope you understand.

Good luck with your cricket and I hope to see you's for a friendly or two later in the summer.

Sorry for making my post seem like something untoward had happened. After re-reading it, I can see why people would think that.

Anyhow, Durham Uni teachers have agreed to take RWEs place in the league.
