SMB Film Thread 2026

Peter Ibbetson (1935) 8/10
One of the inspirations behind Joker: Folie à Deux. Imprisoned for murder, Peter Ibbetson (Gary Cooper) escapes captivity through his dreams. Remarkably inventive, narratively, for an early mainstream Hollywood film.

Shoot to Kill (aka Deadly Pursuit) (1988) 6/10
Kirstie Alley is a mountain guide (not a very convincing one) leading a tour group that includes a ruthless killer. Tom Berenger as her boyfriend, and Sidney Poitier as an FBI agent, trying to find her before she's murdered. Part Lethal Weapon, part First Blood. Ridiculously contrived, but Poitier's good in it.

Too Late for Tears (1949) 8/10
A couple are driving in the LA hills when someone in a passing car throws a bag of cash into their vehicle. The woman (Lisbeth Scott) decides to keep it, whatever the cost. Decent film noir. Full movie here:

Backrooms - went to see it last night based on a lot of feedback on here. Very disappointed. First hour was very good, had a lot of potential then just went to sh*t, nearly burst out laughing at the sloth from the goonies type thing, WTF???
5/10 for the first hour, wouldn’t watch again. Reminds me of when Blair Witch was hyped and people dare not say it was sh*te.
I dont remember seeing a sloth type thing from the goonies do you mean the giant pirate?

Yes but the scene would have been better had sloth been cast I didn’t mean literally did I
The reason I'd been eagerly waiting for this film to be released as I like millions of others had watched the YouTube web series called The Backrooms. I knew what to expect as I'd seen the episode with the 'Roller Giant' it was the stuff of nightmares and difficult to forget even though it was obviously a low budget giant puppet.
