Sarah's Oil (2025) - 6/10 - Based on the true story of young Sarah Rector who is gifted barren land on Indian territory as part of a government allotment programme. The land is considered not fit for farming but the discovery of oil brings along shady characters and ultimately changes the girls life forever. I quite enjoyed this and the lead actor was very good as the precocious Sarah. Ultimately though it seems as though the plot of the movie along with most of the characters was completely fabricated other than the basic facts of oil being discovered on this young girl's land. This always annoys me but I think in this case telling the real story wouldn't be that interesting!

Was a bit disappointed, in what turned out to be a pretentious version of (the way more enjoyable) From Dusk Till Dawn.
Brilliantly shot with great sound design, but the first half dragged before it picked up a bit in the second.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026)
Charismatic performance from Jack O’Connell and brilliance as ever from Ralph Fiennes. Some excellent songs amongst the horror. Manages to make itself independent of the first of the trilogy in style and storytelling. Looking forward to the third.

It’s fascinating, like a time capsule. Seeing a big poster on a wall in the background going on about Hitler really made me sit up and think about the context of the film. And Leslie Banks - what a great character. I wish we’d seen more of him in that role.
Similar takje a your brain out popcorn film simialr to AnacondaCame on to post that i enjoyed "Predator Badlands" as throwaway entertainment but after reading previous comments i feel im in the minority, anyway i thought it was a riot and passed a decent 2 hours with some nice wine

Very emotional throughout, also heart warming but even that left me emotional haha. Im not sure what you need to earn Oscar recognition, but if a movie and a performance can leave you feeling the way I do now after watching........

Point Blank (1967)
Hypnotic and engrossing. I’d had a few before I watched this, but even if I hadn’t, it would have felt like I had.
Stylistically, there’s a lot to admire here. The use of quiet and loud is very effective. The repetitious nature of some of the sound design shapes the hypnotic effect of some scenes. It’s all very odd, and very effective.
Marvin is excellent, pushing the offhanded strangeness of the narrative to its limit. He seems both in total control of his story, and very confused.

Yeah, its a remake of the 1984 Troma film which was a super low budget superhero/ horror spoof.

British B flick about a gang who rob a greyhound track. They go their separate ways and one of them knacks a plod.
Curiously over-burdened by too many plots and characters, this is a bit of a mess, but the cast make it watchable in an inoffensive way.
George Rose is the cop killer, and custodian of the money. He persuades his lass, Ursula Howells, to flee abroad with him. He uses meek gang member Kenneth Griffith to arrange his escape. Howells’ sister, Petula Clark, doesn’t like her prospective brother-in-law, and attempts to get to the bottom of his scheme. She bumps into reporter Kent Taylor, who is tracking actress Renee Houston for a puff piece. He gets involved. The gang leader and his henchman, Michael Balfour, get wind of the plan, and try to intercept.
There’s just too much going on, and it feels very low stakes, with some terrible plot holes, but watching someone like Kenneth Griffith is always a treat.

The Secret Agent (O Agente Secreto) 10/10
Worth the wait for this one. Lived up to expectations (would make a great double bill with I'm Still Here - also a 10/10 for me). Both are set during Brazil's military dictatorship in the 1970s. In this one, a university professor is on the run, and takes a false identity in Recife. But two hitmen are on his trail. The story is pieced together decades later by two history students. Best film I've seen so far this year.

Josh O'Connor is in every other film I watch at the moment. He's brilliant in this as an amateur art thief in 1970. Great soundtrack. Was supposedly inspired by Jean-Pierre Melville. He'd have made a much tighter film. This one loses its way. (Kept cleaning my glasses while watching it - then realised it's the way it's shot, through a constant haze.)

A young soldier coming to terms with his sexuality against the backdrop of conscription in South Africa in 1981. Beautifully shot. Captures the horror of apartheid-era military service brilliantly.
