Can’t recall if I posted this in this thread and I’m not checking but we watched Mr Burton last night.

A biopic of Richard Burton or Richard Jenkins as he was called. A good cast, and a cracking film.
Ditto. It had nivver appealed to me. A decent 7/10. Unfortunately it’s not as true to life as it likes to make out.

House of Dynamite, same as others have said. The ending was a bit of a let down.

I guess they could hardly point the finger at a specific aggressor, hence the ' open ending '.

Not saying it was a great movie ( it wasn't) but I watched it as a doomsday scenario showing that one of several nations could launch a nuclear attack, rather than the well worn Cold War melodrama that's been done to death.

Knowing that even the missiles launched against the incoming missile could malfunction or miss altogether brought home the potential reality of such an 'event' .

Some of the acting was good, some not so good ( stand up Idris Elba ).

As an action movie, it was about 5 out of 10, but the underlying message of what could happen and some of the people in charge, and their flaws, agendas and weaknesses, gives room for thought.

Not a very good movie, but pleased (?) I watched it for the message that it could happen, and the inabilities of those meant to protect us.

Aye I think it wasn't really about the ending or what happens next, so much as how fast you could end up at a potential armageddon, and the fact that no one is prepared for that to ever really happen.

This Amazon Prime film directed by Ron Howard and staring Jude Law is a true story about Friedrich Ritter (Law) and MS sufferer Dore Strauch who flee 1920s Germany for a new life in Floreana an uninhabited land The Galapagos as a result of bourgeois values eroding society. Through his memoirs however and the fact they get out via a ship where they enter Germanys press they become celebrities and soon Margaret and Heinz Wittmer with son Harry arrive.

However vainglorious and manipulative Baroness Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (I had to copy and paste the name!) and lovers Robert and Rudolf with Ecuadorean servant Manuel also arrive. They wish to build a new hotel on the island. Hedonistic behaviour close to the Wittmers enrage them. One of many acs that seem to be designed to create division between the two couples and cause upset.

It reaches a head when she sets up a meal to celebrate the birth of Margaret’s newborn baby. She offends Heinz by suggesting Margaret only married him because he asked and Dore for not being able to bear children. The couples leave but Eloise pulls a gun out and says the Governor of the Galapagos had granted her 2.5k of land for the resort.

When Friedrich and Heinz discover Rudolf was coerced by Eloise into ensuring Heinz is tricked into shooting Dores beloved donkey Friedrich shoots Eloise in the head w Robert is stabbed by Heinz. Their wives are suspicious of their claims the two left the island.

Friedrich begins to show violent tendencies which goes against their beliefs. Dore poisons Friedrich with rotten chicken meat. Ecuadorean authorities having intercepted a letter by Friedrich framing Heinz for the disappearance of Eloise and Robert investigate but Margaret defends her husband.

Dore returns to Germany with the authorities where she dies of MS in 43’. Her memoirs contradict Margaret’s. Rudolf escapes in a fishing boat but dies when a storm hits the boat.

The descendants of the Wittmers still live on the island.

You are supposed to give a review and / or score, not just post a list of complete spoilers!

Watched that, not bad, bit similar to Lord of the flies. Loosely based on fact, think there is a documentary on YouTube

My Darling Clementine (1946) 10/10
One of my favourite Westerns. John Ford's take on the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Henry Fonda terrific as Wyatt Earp.

Roofman (2025) 8/10
Based on a true story. After escaping from prison, Channing Tatum lives secretly in a branch of Toys R Us. Enjoyed this way more than I expected to. One of the better films of this year.
