The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)

Love the self-contained nature of the film and its retro-future art-deco Jetsons aesthetic. Vanessa Kirby is the strongest of the main cast, and anchors the whole thing. Enjoyable.

7/10

Detour (1945)

Tom Neal enters a diner and is rude to the staff and customers. The character monologue starts, and we delve into to his backstory, including meeting femme fatale Ann Savage.

Excellent ‘poverty row’ quickie noir. The lighting is first rate, the narrative pounds along at a fair clip, the mood created by monologues, angles and weather is superb, and the whole thing feels very accomplished. What’s more, is that no matter how unlikely the events are that unfold, the framing of the narrative through Neal’s perspective suggests that we are seeing only one variation of the ‘truth’, and what is shown might be his twisted justification for what happens. Savage is deliciously nasty as a downtrodden menace. A genuine surprise, this film. The performances are great, and the focus is razor sharp, which is remarkable for something filmed so quickly.

8.5/10

Hallow Road (2025). Middle class parents race to save their child in the middle of the night. Ghostly thriller which reminded me of Locke. Annoying crap in my opinion but I'm sure you might disagree...3/10 (coz it's very short).
I enjoyed it
Fairly intense - though he did seem to drive slowly considering he should have been bombing along to get to his daughter
6/10

Watched F1 last night - won't win an Oscar but a really enjoyable 2.5 hrs and was never bored
7.2/10
Bring her back

7/10. Absolutely mental!
My favourite movie of the yr I think !
Don't know if you've seen 'talk to me' directed by the same brothers - another great horror , though a bit easier and more fun to watch

Yeah I've seen it. Was good.

The Electric State - on Netflix. Despite the dayglo stylings I wasn’t expecting it to be quite such a kids movie. Watching a movies with no swearing was quite a refreshing change though. Enjoyable sci-fi adventure from the Russos. 6.75/10

Weapons was OK, I liked the flashback stuff giving a little more info each time.

House on Eden, a Blair Witch type of horror where paranormal investors go to a haunted house.

28 Days Later and 28 weeks later, might watch 28 years tonight
