Police Story 3: Supercop (1992)

Jackie Chan is a cop sent undercover into a prison camp as an inmate. His objective: to break (fellow Seven Little Fortune) Yuen Wah out, gain his favour, and get close to Wah’s drug kingpin boss. He gains valuable assistance from fellow undercover operative Michelle Yeoh.

Way, way better than I expected. I’d always presumed that this wasn’t as good as the first two, and so not bothered with it, but it’s a belter.

Pretty much non-stop in terms of narrative thrust, with healthy and frequent dollops of high quality Hong Kong early 90s action. There’s some great stunt work, and it’s all very unlikely and silly, which is the glory of it.

Pure escapism, with Jackie and Michelle forming a really good double act. There’s some moments of levity, but this is all about the spectacle and pace of the story. It’s just over 90 minutes, and there’s not a wasted one amongst them.

Great!

8/10

Black Bag
Fassbender/blanchett
Soderbergh direction

7.5/10

Spy/espionage shit housery based in London, Fass and Blanchett are a married couple, one a spy one who sorts spy’s out when they get out of line.

Story or more the conclusion to rushed in 90 minutes for me. Could have done another 40 minutes. But really enjoyed it, a lot of dialogue so some May not like it.

Cracking performances all round.

Jurassic World: Rebirth.
A few decent action set pieces but that's about it. Flogging a dead horse but it'll make a shit ton of money so expect another one in a couple of years.
Loads of kids in the screening I was at and it's sad that this is what they get served up when I remember being so thrilled and scared seeing Jurassic Park when it first came out.
My kids really enjoyed it to be fair. They'd give it an 8 maybe, me a 6

The original had more impact on us as we'd not seen such effects before. 30 odd years later the effects in this one were hardly a level above though

It was reasonably true to the first one, notably with a theme about lost public interest in dinosaurs, acknowledging the impact has waned

Was alright 🦕 Scarlett J is the best thing about it maybe. Lapuente decent as the dad. Didn't think much of Friend as the big pharma baddy

Echo Valley
Apple TV
Julianne Moore, Dom Gleason, Syd Sweeny

7.5/10
Really enjoyed this, bit of a slow burn, but a good twisting thriller. Based on Moore having serious issues with drug addicted daughter and how far a
Mother will go to protect the daughter.

Moore is brilliant in this like, absolute top draw..Sweeney for me overacts the arse out of it!!! Gleeson
Is good as a reet creepy Twat.

The old guard 2. Thought it was heading to a nice tidy conclusion with 15 to go, setting up a big fight between Una Thurman’s bad guy and Charlize Therons leader of the good guys, but then it just ended and they’re obviously doing a third one. Tbf UT’s character and motivation needed fleshing out so that will probably happen next time. 6.5/10

Probably the best follow up without Sam Neill.

Black Bag (2025)

Soderberg and Koepp again, this time with a mid-budget spy mystery that leans more towards Poirot than Bond. I can see why it failed to make its money back at the box office. It's aimed at people of above average intelligence and an actual concentration span who crave intrigue rather than explosions and massive special effects set-pieces.

Definitely not for everyone, and won't go down as a spy genre classic, but overall I enjoyed it.

7.8 / 10

Jurassic world rebirth. Of all of the Jurassic movies in the franchise it was definitely one of them.
Like the improvements that omniplex has done, no jalapeños for the nachos once again though

Ballerina....John wick with lady bumps, was alreet for a switch off and watch people get killed kinda thing 6.5/10

A Captain's Tale (1982) - 6/10 - Remember watching this when I was a lad and finding it fascinating, the story of West Auckland FC winning the first world cup. It's a Tyne Tees production, certainly dated and although there's some errors with details it's still a nice nostalgia trip with many familiar faces playing the various team members.

Falling Down (1993)
Never seen this before, noticed it on Netflix and glad I finally got to watch it. Really enjoyed it, plenty of twists and turns and a bit of dark humour throughout. Can totally see it from his point of view as well, he’s not really a bad guy.
7/10

Black Bag (2025)
Fassbender, Cate Blanchett.

Sophisticated ) ie no car chases, gun toting scenes etc ) spy/undercover agent "whodunit" movie. Very low key and absorbing to watch. Enjoyed it.
7/10.

Eastern Promises (2007).
Virgo Mortensen, Namibia Watts, Since Cassel

It's David Cronenberg.... so hard to describe, but loosely based around a teenage Russian girl loses her baby and Russian gangsters abound! Pretty gory in parts.

Yeah, it definitely could have been a 2hr 15min movie as there was an opportunity to explore each of the 'suspects' character traits more deeply.

Jurassic World: Rebirth - Not bad, actually enjoyed this one and got invested in a few of the characters, actually, you pretty much know who's going to make it to the end and who isn't, baring one. Not sure how many more they can pump out, the story tends to repeat itself if you've seen them all, obviously the young ones may only know these new batches. A generous 7/10 for me.
