Saw Sinners the other night. The music sequence was incredible, but apart from that thought it was pretty average and way too long.

Incidentally, Michael B Jordan would be class if they ever get round to making a new Blade.
Played his Brother too! The mash up bit in the middle was class!

Have you watched Oddity?
My favourite Irish horror. It’s possibly on Shudder, my sub ran out a few months back.
Yeah I liked that too. I would say that has more shock moments than this. Guess this is more of a slow burn.
Bullet Train Explosion (2025)

A train will explode if it dips below 100kph.

Partial remake/tribute/soft sequel of the 1975 original, helmed by Shinji Higuchi. He’s good at handling the frantic bureaucracy/government machine scenes, like he did in Shin Godzilla, and the action/tension parts are done well, but some of the characters are poorly drawn. The motives of the antagonist are thoroughly explained, but don’t really ring true, and the escalation of emotions amongst some of the passengers is jarring.

Visual effects are a mixed bag - some are very good, others not so. There’s some lovely sweeping shots of the train travelling. The main character is played well, but there’s a lack of connect with the general setup that will really, really put some people off. I enjoyed it, because I like this type of stuff, but I can appreciate how the slower moments will bore the chod out of some people.

I put up with ten minutes of the dub before switching over to Japanese with subs, and it did make a difference to the sincerity of the film.

7/10.
Some of the gurning melodramatics are truly irritating. Far too long. I gave it a 4.
I absolutely loved Robbery. Joanna Pettet is the cherry on the cake. I really liked him in Jet Storm and Campbell’s Kingdom. I haven’t seen Accident or Violent Playground yet but they’re on the watchlist.
My favourite is The Criminal, Joseph Losey directed. Some intense prison scenes with sadistic prison officer Patrick Magee.

How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies [2024] 9/10
If you've cared for an elderly relative this one might get you in the feels.

Black Bag

I’m a bit of a nerd for Soderbergh and after the daft Presence this didn’t disappoint. Loved the style, can imagine it’d not be for everyone as it’s extremely understated but I found it riveting.

My favourite movie of the year so far.

orca - Richard Harris (think a couple of people caught this on one of the freeview channels yesterday morning!)
Perfectly acceptable creature feature that’s showing its age.

Honest thief - Liam neeson, absolutely meh out of 10, guilty conscience thief finds love and wants to come clean to the fbi.

I really liked it. My lass hated it. We Normally agree on films as well.

The Set-Up [1949] 8/10
Expecting the usual loss, a boxing manager takes bribes from a gangster without telling his fighter who's looking for one last win to set him and his girl up.

Excellent noir told in 72 minutes of real time. Robert Ryan and Audrey Totter star.

OK my fellow movie buffs. Just watched a you tube video.

16 most disturbing scenes in the golden age Hollywood movie history made by someone called Golden age history.

Look it up.

Some excellent scenes from some excellent groundbreaking movies and a pretty good commentary too.
It pleases the Good Lord to hear you say that.
Mentions this film too @Harry Gates

Freaky Tales (2025). Four intertwined stories in Oakland, California. Star cameos can't save this boring mess. The first two stories are dull beyond words. Hopeless.
Saw this was out but when I saw Pedro Pascal and Ben Mendelsohn were both in it I passed.

It’s not that I dislike either of them at all, it’s the complete opposite, and I don’t want them to be over saturated with average cack.

It seems to have been made ages ago...not sure what the story is but I imagine nobody wanted to distribute it coz its average cack like you say.

The Life And Deaths Of Christopher Lee
Documentary about the truly extraordinary life of the great man.
Its entertaining enough but at just 90 mins doesn't do him justice and I was left wanting more detail, as well as more archive and behind the scenes footage.
Enjoyable but a missed opportunity none the less.
7/10
Yeah I enjoyed it but wanted more footage of interviews with him. I guess there are biographies I could find. His WW2 exploits seemed amazing.

Watched Sinners the other night. Loved the homage to the likes of Dusk till Dawn and Carpenters vampires. The music was excellent. Some of which reminded me of Tangerine Dreams soundtrack for the Keep. I also loved the scene in the closing credits. 9/10
