A Real Pain (2024) - 7/10 - Enjoyed this as it just didn't really feel like a movie with a plot as such. It just kind of ambled along as if you were truly watching people on a holiday albeit with some emotional baggage.

Nye [2024] 10/10
Confronted with death, NHS founder Nye Bevan’s deepest memories lead him on a journey back through his life; from childhood to mining to Parliament.

Watched with National Theatre Live. Michael Sheen is (of course) great. The whole thing is bloody brilliant.

This sounds good, right up my street! Was this a recording of a show he’s done at the national that’s is showing In cinemas?

Culkin basically playing Roman Roy from Succession

Sort of but maybe a bit more vulnerable. I like that acting style though, feels natural. It worked well against the Jesse Eisenberg character being more straight.
Quite enjoyed it, also the fact it wasn't 2.5 hours or so for the sake of it 👍

You can say that again! ;) Yeah, sometimes the length of the movie determines which one I decide to watch also!

Can’t understand people having a go at nosferatu. It was perfect I think. I thought it was very romantic and in the end was actually wanting him to get the girl. I loved the audio on it especially his voice.

All I Wanna Do (aka The Hairy Bird, aka Strike!) (1998) 8/10
Dead Poets Society meets teen sex comedy meets Taps. Perfectly decent Miramax-produced film that was buried when Harvey Weinstein took against the female director. Eventually recut by Weinstein, renamed Strike!, and given a very limited release.

Out of Sight (1998) 8/10
One of the films that saved Steven Soderbergh when his career was down the toilet. Superior adaptation of an Elmore Leonard book with great chemistry between George Clooney and J-Lo (Sandra Bullock was originally cast, but lacked the necessary spark).

My Name is Loh Kwan (2024) 6/10
A North Korean defector arrives in Brussels, is plunged into homelessness and despair, but eventually makes a life for himself. It starts out unrelentingly bleak, but then grafts on a romance and a gangster subplot. So basically three films mashed into one. In the second half, the tone is all over the place.

The Queen of My Dreams [2023] 10/10
Azra is worlds apart from her conservative Muslim mother. When her father suddenly dies on a trip home to Pakistan, Azra finds herself on a Bollywood-inspired journey through memories, both real and imagined; from her mother’s youth in Karachi to her own coming-of-age in rural Canada.

F***ing. Loved. This.

Creep Box (2024). Low budget Cronenbergian style chiller which had a nice atmosphere but needed a few scares. Definitely well made, about a scientist who invents a machine that can communicate with the dead, but should have been better. 5/10.

I didn't think much of Emilia Perez last year, but on here I said Karla Sofia Gascon was probably odd-on to become the first transwoman to win a best actress Oscar. Sure enough, she was nominated.

I think the odds have lengthened significantly.

She's anti-black, anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, and thinks Hitler was a good lad.

If that comes out she’s winning NOWT in Hollywood.

A Complete Unknown 8.5/10. Loved it, not sure why I didn't mark it higher. It seemed to get Bob Dylan - a genius, who knew he was a genius but not a particularly nice person. He came across and, I think, is a complete enigma. He made up a lot of his backstory and its difficult to know why he is the way he is. The lead actor was brilliant and I actually prefer his voice to old Bob's. It was two hours twenty but absolutely flew by.
