A man called Otto - 7/10 darker and yet more comedic than I thought it was going to be. Tom Hanks good value as always.

The Monkey - enjoyably daft horror comedy with some suitably daft grisly deaths 7/10

Caught the 2nd half on Film4, made me wish I'd watched it from the start.
House of Dynamite.
First 30 mins promised a lot. It should've ended there.

Don't waste 2 hours of your life.
A House of Dynamite [2025] 9/10

The first 40 minutes are heart-pounding. The rest of the film is retold from different perspectives and doesn't maintain the tension. Still one of the best films of the year.

Had anyone mentioned Poor Things? Modern day frankenstein victorian era woman coming of age with willem dafoe. 9/10
Aye it was brilliant. The director, Yorgos Lanthimos, is a favourite of mine. He's made a few with Emma Stone, they've made another one that just got released today. It's out in the UK on the 31st:

On this thread when it came out, I prefer Lanthimos's other films though.
"Lobster" is probably my favourite, scarred into my memory.

Yes, that’s where I watched it. Had seen the hardware store scene loads when searching for stuff on Netflix and kept meaning to watch it so finally got around to it when it was on “live”. My only real complaint is that he didn’t really grow as a character he still seemed to do all of the helpful things begrudgingly throughout the film.

Just an unhappy person who also happened to be a good person.
My favourite part was the lassie pissing herself laughing at his heart condition.

Black Bag (2025)
Was on Sky Premiere last night.
Spy film with lots of dialogue and complicated plot without any action or tension, unrelatable characters, badly cast.
Didn't know what was going on for probably 2/3 of the film. It did make sense in the end but simply a really complicated plot that eventually comes clear doesn't make it a good film.
5/10 and not really worth your time.

The Long Walk. Decent enough watch but my God Mark Hamill is atrocious. Growly voice does not equal a suitably menacing character. The young actors are very good though.

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1927) 10/10
Carl Theodor Dreyer's silent masterpiece. Consists almost entirely of close ups. Renee Jeanne Falconetti is mesmerising in the title role.

Day of Wrath (1943) 9/10
A later film by Dreyer centered on witch hunts in 17th century Denmark, but with the subtext that it was made during the Nazi occupation.

The Florida Project (2017) 9/10
Slice of life movie from the wrong side of the tracks in Orlando. Terrific performances from the kids, great direction from Sean Baker.

So do I watch it or not? 🤔

Just jesting as personally I just watch something if it takes my fancy, even if someone says it's not worth it or crap. Though it's still got to have at least 5 on IMDB. I use that as a basic guide as my watchlist is pushing 2,000 so I've got plenty to watch anyway and don't want to add more to it 🤪

Raging Bull - 6/10 - De Niro was really good but the biopic has been done a lot better since. Something to do with the cuts and editing annoys me in early Scorsese films.

Its worth watching, apart from the obvious..... you never get to know or guess who the instigator country is and .... the cop out ending is glaringly obvious from five minutes in.

IMHO, not Ms. Bigelow's best work. Enjoyable, but a bit unsatisfying.. a bit like having Sunday roast dinner with no gravy.

Inside the Mafia (1959) - YouTube

Cheapo, yet efficient, B film with a story loosely based on the Albert Anastasia murder and Apalachin Meeting featuring the big mafia families of the time. The cast is reasonable and there’s a nice sincerity to the proceedings. It won’t wow anyone at all, but I found it a decent, informative and slightly amusingly cheesy watch.

6/10

Obsession (1949) - TPTVE

Edward Dmytryk-helmed crime drama with Robert Newton as a doctor who discovers his wife (Sally Gray) having an affair with Phil Brown. He makes Brown disappear but no one has any real evidence against him. Brown is locked up in a deserted cellar while Newton painstakingly prepares his demise. Police superintendent Naunton Wayne has his suspicions, though…

Interesting and enjoyable potboiler with a premise that hangs by a thread, credibility-wise, and features three unappealing main characters, but still succeeds in entertaining. A lot of the dialogue is fresh and spiky, and there’s a diffidence on show that’s hard to dislike, despite the indiscretions of the main characters. The camerawork and settings are nicely realised.

7.5/10

The Heart Within (1957) -TPTVE

David Hemmings is a young lad who finds a stash of tabs down at the river near to the place a body is found. Earl Cameron is on the run after getting into a fight with a bloke who is killed by a third party. Clifford Evans investigates, while James Hayter is dragged into the mess as the kid’s grandad.

Nothing special, but a nice watch. It’s interesting to see the portrayal of the Windrush generation and the problems they faced in 1950s London. The whole slant feels massively simplistic, but as a straightforward crime drama, it’s quite satisfying, and a snapshot of life 70 years ago that fascinates me.

5.5/10

House of dynamite
Lot I of excellent actors in this one with Harris being the best imho, Idris also excellent.

Some crackin scenes full of tension, I actually liked the 3rd section the best, could feel the tension and pressure has the president is fighting with the decision.

So close to be a classic for me, with few tweaks and maybe a braver ending, so the cobra sticks with a very good 8/10

(Ps note to kids and avengers shit fans, despite the title doesn’t have big guns and explosions and you have to think while watching it)
