Smart Meters



Don't really see a downside to them. Saves the faff of having to read them.

Dynamic pricing is the downside. They will charge you more at peak usage periods. And will set it off with cheaper prices at a time when you not likely to use it as much.

They have your usage data.

That hasn't happened yet but if it did then would it be such a bad thing to encourage people to cut peak usage?

That data is also available to you to inform better decision making
 
I'd been against them for years and always ignored every correspondence asking me to get one. had a letter a few months ago though saying my meter certification was expiring and it was cleverly worded to make it sound like i needed to replace it with a smart meter. i later found out i didn't actually need to do that but by that time had already had the smart meters installed

they're actually quite good :lol:

no faffing about with meter readings anymore and i like how I can track everything through the app (with Octopus)
