Sky Sports Domestic Coverage

I notice they’re not showing Surrey v Essex tonight. Instead they’ve got a game from the Pakistan Super League on.

It isn’t the first time they’ve done this, I’m baffled by it if I’m honest, surely they’ll get more viewers for the T20 Blast than they will the PSL??!

Or is it purely because the PSL will be cheap as chips because they’ll just buy the rights as opposed to having to film, produce and commentate on the domestic stuff themselves…..?

I'd guess they have an agreement to broadcast X number of Blast games and they're all scheduled in. There might be an odd reason why Surrey are playing a T20 on a Monday night, maybe they're working around the Oval's international schedule and this is the only time they could squeeze it in.

Tonight wasn’t the first instance, there’s already been half a dozen.

Cost to much for the handful of viewers who pay their subscriptions to watch any form of county cricket.
The free online streams are the best way forward for the county Game.

I pointed this out the other night, the number of Blast games being televised is a lot less than previous years. I did wonder if it's anything to do with the 16.4 and whether there are any conditions attached to the rights deal.

I've quite enjoyed the PSL games, the cricket isn't great but not bad to watch. It wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to me if it wasn't live, I'd have no idea!

David Gower commentating on the one I watched. Had an air of “what the fuck am I doing here” about him on comms.
Then I saw a bloke who looked like he was wearing a scarf attempting to field the ball but missed as it blew up over his eyes. The ball went for 4. Switched it off at that point.

Feel s bit sorry for Gower. I wonder if he genuinely just loved the work or he actually needs the coin. He made it clear he was desperately unhappy about leaving sky and probably would have took a pay cut to stay. All this doing the PSL is a sad end to a glittering career
