Should we ditch the red and white stripes?

Taken from the coat of arms of the (then) Borough of Sunderland, a design that was based on the coat of arms to the Wessington family of landowners from the 16th century. The Wessington name was eventually bastardised into the name 'Washington', the most famous descendant of that family went on to became the first President of the United States, George Washington, which is one of the reasons that the flag of the USA has red and white stripes in it, as that too was based around his family coat of arms.

wow.

And Wessingtons had red and white stripes based on Danish Viking Ships Sail colours. This is also where we get our dialect.....

Red and white stripes for me.

Was in a local bakers today - they sold gingerbread men in football shirts. Four black and white stripes, five red and white stripes, and one pale blue shirt. In south London.

I will look at the lure and decide to ignore it with the disdain it deserves. Fuck off you f***ing fuck. I have seen more sense in a Greggs pasty. Change the red and white stripes indeed

Will never have a decent looking kit if we have continue with the stripes. Considering a portion of you would sell the club to red bull, some of you must fancy this?

Maybe we should drop the name too. Move everything to London, play in bright orange and call ourselves lucosade united or some such shit.

Just cos players will do anything for money doesn't mean we should as well.

I hate the stripes on TV. Solid red would be easier to see.

If I am honest I never loved the red and stripes. I love Sunderland and will always wear the jersey but That does not mean red and stripes are my first choice. I like solids.....Norwich great colors. Liverpool great colors.

People have got to understand that location and us, the fans, are the clubs only identity. Everything else is liable to change. If that change leads to success, I'm for it.

How can changing your strip lead to success?
Actually the only identity the club has is its red and white stripes. Without it we are just johny come latelys like MK Dons. Our strip is our heritage..,, it reflects all our relatives who passed the club onto us, it reflects the coal miners and ship builders and everyone else who made this city and who's biggest love was the club, it reflects the glory of being historically the sixth most successful club in history, it's our DNA.

They will be suggesting we ground share at SJP next. Lets give up what little identity the city has and accept we are just a southern suburb of Tyneside....[DOUBLEPOST=1383983445][/DOUBLEPOST]
Ok what is it that You get out of football then?[DOUBLEPOST=1383952957][/DOUBLEPOST]
I was when I believed that a team named after a town was made up of people who actually came from that town. versus the same
