Why close the Metro station ?

I went through Berlin main station about 3 hours ago. There was big police presence as someone had left their luggage on the platform. All the polis did was close off about 10 metres of the platform but trains still used the same platform.

Someone is going to receive a monumental bollocking from the polizei for this.
